Grant Accountant

The team fosters a collaborative, mission‑driven environment focused on making a measurable difference. The organization is looking to add a Grant Accountant to their team. Salary/Hourly Rate $30/hr – $45/hr (commensurate with experience) Position Overview The Grant Accountant will be responsible for overseeing the financial management and compliance of grant funding. This role plays a critical part in ensuring that all grant‑related financial activities are accurately tracked, reported, and aligned with donor requirements and nonprofit accounting standards. The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, analytical, and experienced in fund accounting within a nonprofit setting. Responsibilities Manage the full lifecycle of grant accounting, including budgeting, tracking, and reporting. Monitor grant expenditures to ensure compliance with donor restrictions and guidelines. Prepare timely and accurate financial reports for grantors and internal stakeholders. Reconcile grant‑related accounts and maintain accurate financial records. Assist with the development of grant budgets and forecasts. Collaborate with program managers to ensure proper allocation of expenses. Support audits by preparing schedules and grant‑related documentation. Ensure compliance with GAAP and nonprofit fund accounting principles. Maintain internal controls related to grant management and reporting. Required Experience/Skills 3+ years of accounting experience, with at least 1–2 years in grant or nonprofit accounting. Strong understanding of fund accounting and grant compliance requirements. Experience preparing financial reports for restricted funding sources. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting systems. Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills. Strong attention to detail and ability to meet reporting deadlines. Effective communication and collaboration skills. Preferred Experience/Skills Experience working with federal, state, or private grant funding. Familiarity with nonprofit accounting systems such as Sage Intacct, Blackbaud, FundEZ, PASSPORT, or NetSuite. Knowledge of Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200). Experience supporting audits and grant reporting requirements. Exposure to budgeting and forecasting processes within a nonprofit environment. Education Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required. CPA certification or progress toward CPA is a plus.
