UNIT CLERK Fahrney Keedy in Boonsboro Maryland (near Hagerstown) Full Time / Day Shift $18.50 - $23.50 **must have good driving record** CNA or Med Tech license a plus !! SUMMARY: The primary purpose of a Unit Clerk - ALU is to assist the Director of Assisted Living and/or Delegating RN in their day-to-day recording and charting of medical or administrative information in accordance with federa l , state, and local standards, g u i delines and the policie s , procedures and practices of Fahrney-Keedy that govern medical records , and may be required to ensure that our medical records are maintained in an informative and descriptive manner. DELEGATION OF AUTHORITY: As a Unit Clerk - ALU, you are delegated the administrative authority, responsibilities, and accountabi l i ty necessary for canying out your assigned duties. EMPLOYMENT AT WILL: E mp l oyment with Fahrney-Keedy is " a t will". Either the associate or Fahrney-Keedy may terminate the employment relationship for any reason at any time without n ot i ce , regardless of the l ength of emp l oyment or the granting of benefits of any kind, including but not l imi ted to benefits which provide for vesting based on length of service. Associates agree that they will not at any time or in any manner solicit, collect or divulge any Information to any third party without the prior written consent of Fahrney-Keedy. This information is Company property which may not be disclosed outside the facility unless properly released for publication. Associates will protect the Information and treat it as strictly confidential. Associates should not discuss Fahrney-Keedy affairs with others JOB FUNCTION: Every effort has been made to identify the essential functions of this position. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Records appropriate resident identification data on designated medical records , and other documentation as reauired. Transcribes physicians' orders to care plan s , medication cards, treatment plans, etc. Reviews medication cards for completeness of information, accuracy in the transcription of the physician's order , legibilit y , etc. Records vital signs as directed. Assists in arranging for and making resident appointments for diagnostic and therapeutic services. Notifies the r es id e nt ' s next-of-kin when there is a change in the resident' s condition , accident or incident. Prepares the schedule for all Assisted living personnel. The schedule is to be prepared with employee assigned to the various floors. Responsible for replacing or reananging of staff during hours worked. Assists with on call rotation for staffing issues only. Staff Scheduler, including “On Call” rotation for staffing issues, as well as schedular duties as assigned. Performs genera l administrative requirements , such as comp l eting necessary forms, charts, repo11s, etc. and submit these as may be required. Maintains a friend l y , product i ve , working relationship w i th other members of the department, and facil i ty. Reports any complaints or gr i evances made by residents to the Director of Assisted Living , the Delegating RN, or the Director of Nu r sing. Participate and cooperate with any fac i lity surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies as requested by the Director of Ass i sted Living or Delegating RN. Agrees not to d i sclo s e assigned us e r ID codes and passwords for accessing resident / fac i lity information and promptly report suspected or known v i o l ations of such disclosure to the Director of Assisted Living or Del e gating RN. Agrees not to disclose resident's protected health information and promptly report suspected or known violations of such disclosure to the Director of Assisted Living or Delegating RN. Records medical and adm i nistrat i v e information in accordance with our estab l ished electron i c c h arting and documentation policies and procedures. Maintains the dai l y census report and submits to the Business Office. Maintains an up-to - date roster of residents for ALU. Answers telephone , page calls, deli v ers m ess a ge s to re s ident s , etc. Maintains c urrent li s ting of emergency phon e numbers for ALU. l All transport duties including scheduling appts, providing transport, maintaining calendar of appointments and follow ups, making facility packets to send, etc. Forwards new diet orders and/or diet changes to the Director of Food Services Delivers mail, flowers, etc. to residents. Completes accident or in cident repo1ts. Comp l etes necessary medical and administrative records upon the resident's admission, transfer and / or discharge. Directs vis itor s to resident rooms, office a r eas , etc. Repo1ts any known or s u spected unauthorized attempt to access the facility's infom1ation system. Ensures that departmental computer workstat ions left unattended are properly logged off or the password protected automat ic screensaver activates within established policy gu ideline s . Attends annual in-service training programs as scheduled. Keeps ca ll buttons w ithin easy reach of eac h r es ident. Immediatel y notifies the Delegating RN or Director of Ass i sted L i ving of any re s id ent l eaving / missing from the faci li ty. Follows established safety precautions in the performance of a ll duties. Reports all hazardous condit i ons and equ ipm ent to the Director of Assist e d Living o r Delegating RN. Reports a ll safety vio l at i ons. Report s any communicab l e or infectiou s di s ease to the Director of Assisted Li v ing , Delegating RN or to the Director of Infecti on Control. Follows estab li shed i solat ion precautions and procedures. Wears and/or u se safety equipment and s upplie s. Safely uses only the equipment you have been trained to use. Reports defective equipment to the Delegating RN or Director of Assisted Living. Practices appropriate hand was hing and u se of hand sanitize r at all times. WORKING ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an associate ma y encounter while performing the essentia l duties of this position. Subject to exposure to infectious waste dise ases, cond ition s, etc., including TB, HIV, Hep. B, etc. Attends and participates in educat ion al programs. Subject to injury from falls, burns from equ ipment , odors, etc . throughout the workday , as we ll as reactions from dust, disinfectants , and/o r other air contam in ants. RESIDENT RIGHTS: Maintain the confidentiality of all resident care information including protected health information. Report known or s u spected incidents of unauthorized disclosure of such information. Ensure that yo u treat all residents fair l y w ith kindness , di g ni ty , and respect. Ensure that a ll nursing care is provided in privacy. Knock and wait for permission to enter all r es id ents ' rooms. Report a ll g ri evances and comp l aints made by the res id e n ts to the Director of Assisted Living or the Delegating RN. Report all allegations of resident abuse and / or misappropriation of resident property to the Fahrney-Keedy Abuse Coordinator. Honor the r es ident ' s refusal of treatment request. Report such requests to your supervisor. SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to read, write , speak and understand the English language. Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of the residents served. Must be a supportive team member, contribute to and be an example of team work and team concept. Must possess the abi li ty to make ind e p e nd e nt decisions when circumstances warrant such action. Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with s t aff, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies / personne l , and the ge n era l public. Must possess the ability and willingness to work harmoniously with other staff. Must have pat i ence, tact , a cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm , as we ll as the willingness to handle difficult residents. Must be willing to seek out n ew methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing nursing practices. Must be able to relate information concerning a resident's condition. Must not pose a direct threat to the h ea lth and safety of other individuals in the workplace. EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED i s required.
