The Head Dance Coach must be committed to the personal development of each player on the roster and is responsible for facilitating each participating student to achieve a high level of skill, an appreciation for discipline and sportsmanship, and increased self‑esteem. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws, including interviewing, hiring, training, assigning work, conducting evaluations of all coaches, rewarding employees, and resolving complaints. Helps students develop a competitive nature, ethical behavior, sportsmanship, and leadership skills. Builds positive working relationships with other head coaches and collaborates with all sports teams to share facilities and support each other’s programs. Teaches student maneuvers and plays for the assigned position. Explains and demonstrates the use of apparatus and equipment. Observes students during practice to detect and correct mistakes. Provides safety instruction and enforces safety rules and regulations. Teaches methods of keeping score. Organizes and conducts competitions and tournaments. Helps students understand health, nutrition, exercise, and the importance of academics. Tracks student academic progress weekly and communicates eligibility information to students, parents, school, and IESA regulations. Participates in seasonal athlete/parent orientation meetings and holds pre‑season meetings to inform all parties of team, school, and IESA rules. Adheres to all district rules and regulations concerning fundraisers and overnight trips. Ensures that each athlete completes participation form, fee, IESA eligibility, transfer requests (if needed), and an up‑to‑date physical form before any athletic participation. Conducts evaluations of all assistant coaches and submits them to the Athletic Director. Inventorys all equipment at season’s end and submits requests to the Athletic Director within one month. Assists in maintaining practice and competition facilities and reports needed repairs to the Athletic Director. Supports athletes who plan to continue athletics at the collegiate level. Qualifications Appropriate certification as required by the Illinois Elementary School Association (IESA): IESA‑approved coaching qualification, Performance Enhancing Substances (PES) Exam, and concussion exam. Additional certification: American Sport Education Program (ASEP) and National Federation of State High Schools (NFHS). Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
