Certified Cancer Program Abstractor

The Certified Cancer Program Abstractor coordinates Breast Tumor Conferences and GYN Tumor Conferences and assists with the collection, abstraction, coding, staging, and reporting of cancer registry data. This position supports accurate reporting to the Louisiana State Tumor Registry and helps maintain compliance with cancer program accreditation standards.

Requirements:

• Education: Requires Associate degree or graduation from an accredited college or university. ODS-C (CTR) certification required. RHIA/RHIT preferred.
• Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of tumor registry experience required. Previous coding experience in ICD-9-CM or CPT preferred.

Responsibilities:

• Cancer Program & Registry Support
  • Serves as a conference coordinator for Breast Tumor Conferences and GYN Tumor conferences.
  • Communicate pertinent information regarding problems, anticipated issues, and procedural recommendations in an accurate and timely manner.
• Case Review, Abstracting & Staging
  • Assists with the review of pathology reports, cytology reports, autopsy reports, and the disease index to determine appropriate cases to be abstracted for the tumor registry.
• Data Collection & Reporting
  • Assist in data collection and compilation for the Woman's Hospital Cancer Annual Report and other specialty reports as requested.
  • Assist in data retrieval and analysis activities, including patient care evaluation studies and other reporting needs.
• Commission on Cancer Compliance
  • Maintain knowledge of American College of Surgeons requirements for becoming and maintaining a cancer approved program.
• Quality & Process Improvement
  • Recommend procedural changes and support ongoing Cancer Program and registry process improvements.
  • Maintain current knowledge of reporting requirements, registry standards, and industry updates.

Schedule:

• Full-Time; Monday - Friday
• 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM
• Hybrid flexibility available after training/orientation period

Compensation:

• Hourly; Non-Exempt Position
• Cancer Program Abstractor: $20.82 - $30.19
• Certified Cancer Program Abstractor: $25.20 - $36.54
