Gregoire Spokane Division has an immediate opening for an Attorney Team Leader in the Social and Health Services Section. The position reports directly to Spokane’s SHS Section Chief, Katie Christopherson, and will be one of three team leaders responsible for oversight of all legal services provided in Spokane, Stevens, Ferry, Whitman, Pend Oreille, Lincoln, Asotin and Adams Counties. The role is a full case‑carrying position with direct supervision of five AAGs. The Team Leader maintains comprehensive legal knowledge in the section and actively engages in mentoring and professional development of staff. Responsibilities The Attorney Team Leader carries a full caseload, often composed of juvenile litigation cases that are emergent and emotionally charged. The caseload may also involve work for client agencies. Responsibilities include: Reviewing files and preparing for hearings or trials Submitting and responding to discovery Producing briefs, motions and other pleadings Considering settlement options and keeping clients and parties informed Meeting all case schedule deadlines Assisting other attorneys general in various practice areas as needed by client agencies, including contested adoptions, public disclosure/confidentiality issues, fair hearings appeals, administrative hearings, civil commitment hearings, and more Advising and representing the Division of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) and the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) in court proceedings and appeals Ensuring familiarity with applicable rules, statutes and procedures Qualifications & Requirements Graduated from an ABA‑accredited law school or completed the WSBA Rule 6 Law Clerk Program; licensed to practice law in Washington State (applicants actively pursuing admission will also be considered) Demonstrated ability in juvenile dependency and termination cases Experience litigating cases at Superior Court, presenting and defending motions, interviewing and presenting witnesses, providing client advice, and arguing before the Court of Appeals Familiarity with the Administrative Procedures Act (APA) Proven ability to foster teamwork and collaboration and promote a positive work environment that respects all employees Commitment to public service and evidence of a strong background, talents, attitude, and enthusiasm for public law practice Applicants must apply by clicking the “apply” button.
