Senior Liquid Cargo Operator

Job Summary

The Senior Liquid Cargo Operator is an experienced, hands-on field professional responsible for safely supporting and performing liquid cargo transfer operations and related marine services. The role operates pumps, hoses, valves, and associated equipment; monitors transfer conditions; completes required documentation; maintains equipment; and supports spill response and salvage activities. The Senior Operator may serve as the field lead on assigned jobs, coordinate work activities, and provide practical guidance to less experienced personnel while remaining accountable to management and site-specific operating requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Five or more years of relevant experience in liquid cargo transfer, marine terminal, vessel, petrochemical, tank farm, pipeline, or comparable industrial operations. Equivalent combinations of directly related training and experience may be considered.
• Demonstrated ability to safely operate or support the operation of pumps, transfer hoses, valves, manifolds, hydraulic systems, and related cargo handling equipment.
• Valid driver’s license and driving record acceptable under company requirements.
• Valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
• Ability to obtain and maintain a valid U.S. passport and to travel domestically and internationally for extended assignments.
• Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English sufficiently to follow safety requirements, operating instructions, permits, labels, and emergency communications.
• Ability to satisfy company pre-employment and ongoing qualification requirements for the position, including applicable background, drug and alcohol, medical, respiratory protection, and fitness-for-duty requirements.
• Ability to meet the physical and environmental requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with ship-to-ship transfers, vessel or barge operations, marine terminals, loss control, spill response, or salvage support.
• Current HAZWOPER, hazardous materials, respiratory protection, first aid/CPR, or other relevant industrial safety training.
• Working knowledge of applicable company procedures and federal, state, local, port, terminal, and customer requirements governing marine operations, worker safety, environmental protection, and hazardous materials.
• Experience serving as a lead operator, conducting pre-job briefings, directing field tasks, or training less experienced operators.
• Mechanical aptitude and experience troubleshooting cargo transfer equipment within the employee’s training and authorization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform and, when assigned, lead the loading, unloading, and transfer of liquid cargo, including petroleum products, chemicals, and other compatible liquid products, using pumps, hoses, valves, manifolds, and related equipment.
• Review the assigned transfer plan, conduct or participate in pre-job safety meetings and job safety analyses, confirm roles and communication methods, and verify that transfer equipment is properly positioned, connected, inspected, and ready for service.
• Monitor transfer pressures, flow rates, tank levels, hose condition, containment, valve alignment, and operating conditions throughout the transfer to help prevent releases, overfills, equipment damage, or service interruption.
• Coordinate professionally with vessel personnel, terminal representatives, surveyors, customers, subcontractors, and Pro Liquid management regarding job status, operational changes, hazards, and completion requirements.
• Record cargo volumes and operating data; perform or assist with tank, vessel, or shore measurements when assigned; and accurately complete bills of lading, transfer records, daily worksheets, permits, vehicle inspections, equipment inspections, and safety documentation.
• Inspect, clean, prepare, and perform routine maintenance on hoses, pumps, valves, hydraulic systems, vehicles, tools, and other cargo handling equipment. Promptly identify and report defects or unsafe conditions.
• Participate in emergency response activities, including marine and oil-industry spill response, equipment decontamination, contamination response, and salvage support, consistent with training and the assigned incident structure.
• Use required personal protective equipment and respiratory protection correctly. Maintain situational awareness in work areas that may contain hazardous, toxic, corrosive, flammable, or physically demanding conditions.
• Provide hands-on coaching and task guidance to operators and new employees. Reinforce safe work practices, stop-work responsibility, housekeeping, equipment care, and accurate documentation.
• Assist with post-job equipment recovery, inventory control, demobilization, job closeout, after-action review, and incident or near-miss fact gathering as requested.
• Maintain readiness for irregular schedules, callouts, extended shifts, and domestic or international travel based on operational needs.
• Perform other duties and tasks assigned by management and required by the needs of the business.

Work Conditions and Physical Requirements

• Work is performed aboard vessels and barges; at docks, terminals, shore facilities, industrial sites, and inland waterways; and in other marine or field locations.
• The employee may be exposed to moving equipment, elevated or confined work areas, uneven or slippery surfaces, fumes or airborne particles, hazardous substances, weather, heat, noise, water-adjacent environments, and other industrial hazards.
• The position frequently requires standing, walking, sitting, reaching, handling tools and controls, climbing stairs or ladders, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, speaking, and hearing.
• The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and must possess the close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth vision necessary for assigned work activities.
• The employee must be able to wear and properly use required Levels A, B, C, and D personal protective equipment, including approved respiratory, skin, face, hand, and foot protection, in varying combinations based on the assigned hazard assessment.
• The schedule may include nights, weekends, holidays, extended shifts, emergency callouts, and travel. Work hours and locations may change with customer and response requirements.
