Mental Health Senior Charge Nurse - Directorate of Forensic Mental Health and Learning Disabilities

Role The post holder provides clinical leadership and line management for a staff team within the Directorate of Forensic Mental Health. They are accountable for coordinating and delivering specialist nursing care and treatment to individuals with mental disorders or learning disabilities who have a history of serious offending behaviour or who present significant risk to themselves or others. The role also involves contributing to organisational objectives, promoting effective teamwork, and ensuring safe, high‑quality clinical practice. Duration, Location and Working Pattern Full‑time, Permanent Base location - Rowanbank Clinic Shift Pattern - Monday to Friday, some weekend work required for senior cover Key Responsibilities Clinical leadership – providing direction and oversight to ensure safe, effective care. Line management – supervising and supporting staff performance and development. Risk assessment and reduction – delivering care within a secure environment focused on managing and reducing risk. Rehabilitation and discharge planning – supporting patients’ progress toward safe return to the community. Team collaboration – promoting cohesive, effective multidisciplinary working. Ensuring safe and effective practice – maintaining high clinical standards within the area of responsibility. Qualifications and Experience Understanding of forensic mental health and the needs of individuals with mental disorders or learning disabilities who present significant risk. Skills in specialist nursing care, including therapeutic interventions within secure settings. Knowledge of risk management, rehabilitation pathways, and community reintegration. Ability to contribute to organisational objectives and uphold governance and safety standards. Training in leadership, team management, and clinical coordination.
