City Administrator

Overview The City of Viroqua, located in scenic Vernon County, Wisconsin, is seeking a City Administrator to succeed the current administrator who has accepted a new role as County Coordinator. Viroqua is a vibrant, growing community and the county seat of the Driftless region. It features a historic downtown listed on both state and national registers, a strong arts and cultural scene, thriving local businesses, and extensive natural resources. The city offers a new city hall, updated fire and police stations, a high‑quality school system, healthcare resources, an airport, and over 100 acres of park space. Salary & Benefits Salary: $90,000–$110,000 plus excellent benefits. Responsibilities Lead city operations in partnership with the Mayor, Council, and department heads to ensure efficient governance and public service delivery. Develop and manage the city’s budget, including general fund, water, and sewer utilities, with a focus on sound fiscal stewardship. Coordinate capital improvement projects, including the 5‑year Capital Improvement Plan and current construction initiatives such as the new community playground. Oversee comprehensive planning, housing, economic development, and redevelopment initiatives to support safe, affordable, and sustainable growth. Build and maintain relationships with community stakeholders, state and federal partners, and private sector entities to advance city goals. Provide strategic leadership, grant writing support, and overall project management across all departments. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in public administration or a related field, combined with at least 5 years of progressive municipal management experience (or equivalent education and experience). Master’s degree in public administration preferred. Track record of successful economic development, budget development, and strategic planning. Strong leadership, team‑building, and communication skills; high integrity and a proactive, collaborative style. Experience in federal government, private sector, or military acceptable if it demonstrates relevant accomplishments. Residency in Viroqua encouraged but not required.
