Staff Software Engineer – Platform & Scale Storm2's client is a Series B FinTech company building software for the private investments market. Their platform helps investors, banks, family offices, and asset managers manage and understand complex portfolios without relying on endless spreadsheets, fragmented reporting, and manual processes. They've grown rapidly, serve hundreds of institutional clients, and are at the point where platform scalability, engineering quality, and long-term technical direction matter just as much as shipping new features. The Role Not every Staff Engineer role gives you genuine influence. This one does. The challenge here is scaling a platform that sits at the center of how institutional investors manage and interact with private market data. You'll be responsible for some of the company's most important technical decisions, working across teams to shape architecture, improve engineering standards, and solve problems that affect the business at scale. This is a role for someone who enjoys operating beyond the boundaries of a single team. You'll still be hands-on, but your impact will come from driving technical direction, unblocking complex initiatives, and helping strong engineers become even better. If you've consistently been the person trusted with the difficult systems, the cross-functional projects, and the architectural decisions that others depend on, you'll be comfortable here. What you'll be working on: Leading the architecture and delivery of large-scale technical initiatives that span multiple teams. Defining technical direction for core platform and backend systems. Making key decisions around scalability, reliability, security, and performance. Partnering with product, design, and data teams to bring complex features from concept through production. Identifying and tackling technical debt, platform bottlenecks, and infrastructure challenges. Mentoring engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and technical leadership. Raising engineering standards across the organization through best practices and thoughtful decision-making. What you'll bring: 8+ years of experience building and scaling software products. Strong background in full-stack engineering, distributed systems, or large-scale backend architecture. Experience owning complex technical projects with meaningful business impact. A history of influencing engineering direction across teams without relying on management authority. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders. Evidence of making pragmatic architectural decisions while balancing speed, quality, and long-term maintainability. Nice to have: Experience in FinTech, investment technology, wealth management, or capital markets. Experience at a high-growth startup or early-stage company. Background building internal developer platforms, tooling, or engineering infrastructure. Exposure to data-heavy products serving institutional clients. Why this role? Many Staff Engineer positions are really senior engineering roles with a different title. This isn't one of them. The expectation here is that you help shape how the organization builds software, not just what it builds.
