This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

Help

• Install, remove, maintain, adjust, troubleshoot, overhaul, modify, and test project electrical systems, equipment, controls, fixtures, and machinery.
• Representative electrical systems/items include but are not limited to fire alarm systems; complete electrical systems including wiring and machinery; and shop equipment including electric hoists and motors.
• Remotely controlled electro-mechanical security gate locks and controls; electric power controlling, switching and distribution systems for industrial and high security operations; and water system control panels and pump motors.
• Perform maintenance services, diagnose systems or equipment malfunctions, and make necessary adjustments, repairs, or modifications.
• Inserts, splices, and connects wires to fixtures, outlets, switches, receptacles, motors, controls, pumps, distribution boxes, power sources, etc.
• As directed, assists electrical linemen by performing groundman, truck driver, and other duties that do not require the services of a qualified lineman.
• Operate a variety of motor vehicles and equipment (e.g., pickups, vans, crew trucks, aerial or bucket truck, aerial lift, forklifts, 5-ton trucks, 1000-gallon fish trucks, vessels, tractors, etc).
• Maintain a Subject Matter Expert (SME) level knowledge and use of PPE for the position.

• This position requires a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles, or incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License.
• This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
• This is a drug testing position and requires a pre-employment drug test and random drug and alcohol testing.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Electrician~ without more than normal supervision. Must have the ability to perform common tasks of an Electrician such as read wiring diagrams that specify where wiring, cables, and fixtures and controls are installed. Ability to maintain and repair electrical wiring, controls, equipment and fixtures; make repairs such as tightening connections, insulating bare wire, and soldering loose leads to contact points. Ability to use a variety of test equipment such as test light, megger, voltmeter, power meter set, and other electrical meters to locate malfunctions. Have selected and used hand and power tools such as screw drivers, crimpers, wire strippers, pliers, wire cutters and soldering irons. Ability to troubleshoot problems by observation and with simple instruments, such as meggers or voltmeters where the faulty unit is an individual circuit (less than a complete system) and is easily located. Work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.

• PHYSICAL EFFORT - Work requires heavy physical effort and the ability to perform heavy lifting and carrying (50 pounds and over); use of both arms, both hands, and both legs; repeated bending, climbing, and reaching; continuous standing and walking; kneeling and crawling, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Work also requires operation of equipment and motor vehicles, rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. Occasionally works in cramped quarters, or from ladders scaffolds or platforms.
• WORKING CONDITIONS - Work is performed inside and outside in all types of weather (e.g., heat, cold, rain, wind, etc.) and usually in a dirty, dusty and/or greasy environment. Incumbent is exposed to the possibility of broken bones, electrical shocks, burns, cuts bruises, maimed fingers and scrapes. Works in mud and water when required. Is subject to such hazards as working around moving machinery, working over and in water, working in cramped quarters, working on ladders, scaffolding, slippery or uneven walking surfaces, both above and below ground. Works with electrical, automotive and engineering equipment. May be exposed to excessive noise, dust, silica, asbestos, fumes, smoke, gases, solvents, grease, oil, and electrical equipment. Safety hats, safety shoes, gloves, and rain gear are furnished to employee for normal activities. Respirators, face shields, eye goggles, and other equipment are provided for herbicide application, painting, welding, and other hazardous duties. May be exposed to poisonous reptiles, insects, or plants. Routinely is required to wear uncomfortable protective clothing.
