Paramedic

Job Summary: The Paramedic works under the supervision of a registered nurse or physician. He/she provides direct and indirect patient care in acute care, skilled care, and/or urgent care setting. Communicates with the registered nurse and/or physician about changes in patient's condition, including clinical findings and diagnostic results. Is able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in patient condition or response to treatment. Participates in performance improvement and clinical quality initiatives (CQI) activities. Additionally, is able to perform general nursing duties in all assigned departments with adequate supervision. Understand and comply with the requirements of the CRH Compliance Program, including, but not limited to the Code of Conduct, the Compliance Policy, all organization-wide policies for compliance, and compliance plans affecting specific duties and responsibilities. Participates in all education and training programs regarding compliance as required by CRH policy. Ability to ensure every patient receives the proper treatment at the proper time. Education: High school diploma or equivalent; Completion of an accredited paramedic program. Experience: 0-2 years' experience in an acute care setting preferred; not required. Certificates, License, Registrations: Successful passing of NREMT exam. BLS for the Healthcare Provider required. ACLS and PALS required. Ability to complete all of the necessary competencies listed in the Core Competencies Section, including but not limited to: Documentation Respiratory system Cardiovascular functions IV Therapy/venipuncture Medication administration Genitourinary/Gastroenterology systems Musculoskeletal/integumentary system Legal/Ethical Issues Infection control practices General requirements Neurological conditions Maxillofacial, eye, ear, nose & throat systems Initial Competencies for Clinical Staff members Ability to adequately assess and reassess pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Educates the patient and family regarding pain management. Ability to contribute to the overall assessment by conducting focused assessments on all patients, including reassessment per policy. This includes neonate, pediatric, adult and geriatric patient populations. Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduce the likelihood of medical/ health care errors. Ability to contribute to the plan of care. Consults other departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to patients' needs. Communicates effectively and appropriately to RN, charge nurse, medical staff, coworkers, and leadership. Demonstrates an ability to assist providers as appropriate. Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized, and function well in stressful situations. Treats patients, visitors, and coworkers with respect and dignity. Documentation meets current standards and policies. Appearance and workspace are neat and clean; adheres to dress code. Completes annual required education/ competencies. Reports to work on time and as scheduled, ready to work. Completes work within the designated timeframe. Participates in performance improvement activities of the unit/department. Always represents the organization in a positive and professional manner. Other duties as assigned. Security/Access: 24-hour access availability to the facility. Individuals are required to always have proper name badge identification on and visible. Individuals may be given door codes to access restricted areas. Exposure to Hazards: See table below. Equipment Used: Common patient care equipment may include, but not limited to, vital sign machines, telemetry monitoring equipment, scales, lift equipment, infusion pumps, hospital beds, bedside commodes, walkers, wheelchairs, and other equipment necessary to perform the necessary job functions.
