Singing River Pascagoula Hospital Job Description Summary Job Description Position Overview: The Executive Director of Procedural Services is responsible for direct oversight of all fiscal operations and clinical integrity for General Surgery, Urology, Orthopedics, CRNAs, and other assigned services; administration of clinical and fiscal surgery operations; development and execution of annual operating and capital budget; optimizing surgery room efficiency; serving as business and clinical liaison with Surgery groups; evaluating and sharing cost and quality data and opportunities with Surgery groups and applicable Health System Administrative and Medical Staff. He/She supervises and evaluates work activities to improve service utilization and establishes objectives and evaluative/operational criteria. The Executive Director manages the operational effectiveness of the services in a manner that maximizes the patient experience, staff collaboration and effectiveness, and net revenues, all while minimizing costs. The Executive Director of Procedural Services will reduce clinical and operational variability; improve the
efficiency of patient flow; increase consistency in surgery start times and turnover; increased training of surgery techs; optimize use of order sets; optimize patient, employee and physician satisfaction; minimize costs per procedure; aggressively work with vendors to obtain optimal contract terms; and maximize favorability of patient outcomes. He/She improves efficiencies within the assigned services and assists with compliance of contractual agreements, licensing rules and recommendations, and government reporting requirements. Serves as the strategic business leader for the assigned services; develops the business strategy and directs the core strategic and operating planning processes. The Executive Director serves as the operational leader; ensures that the services provide a level of service, quality, and accessibility that simultaneously results in lower possible cost and increased patient and employee satisfaction. Improves operational efficiency by designing and implementing processes and programs to assist in achieving key operational strategies. The Executive Director of Procedural Services provides leadership to assure appropriate volume and financial growth and sustainability. He/She serves as a liaison for the general and orthopedic surgeons and develops a partnership with physicians, seeking their guidance and advice often. The Executive Director provides the opportunity for effective collaboration between surgeons, anesthesiologists, professional staff and administration; and assures transparency including financial, quality and operational metrics. The Executive Director of Procedural Services serves as a financial leader enabling the services to achieve goals while maintaining a competitive cost structure. As a change leader, the Executive Director will partner with the Singing River Health System leaders to facilitate change that enables the services to remain competitive and effective. Provides leadership and management responsibility over all functions within the assigned services; develops and oversees high quality, cost-effective, and integrated clinics, departments, services, and programs. Expectation is for all performed duties to be in accordance with Singing River Health System procedures and policies, accrediting organization, and governing guidance and publications for health care employees. Education: Master of Business Administration (MBA); with a bachelor's degree in a clinical area of study required. License: Must hold current, unencumbered MS license / certification(s) for applicable clinical license. Certifications: Required to complete and maintain BCLS certification upon hire and/or transfer. Must have de-escalation training completed by the end of position orientation (90 days); must have appropriate level of de-escalation training. Experience: A minimum of five (5) years of senior management experience in healthcare administration required. Reports to: Chief Executive Officer Supervises: Department / Service Line personnel, as assigned. Physical Demands: Work is moderately active: involves sitting with frequent requirements to move about the office, move about the facility, and to travel to another facility within the SRHS service area. Work involves exerting a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Work involves using many physical motions in performing daily work activities; subject to exposure of body fluids, sputum and tissues, which may carry the hazard of infectious disease. Work involves using repetitive motions: substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and or fingers while operating standard office equipment such as computer keyboard. Work involves being able to perceive the nature of sound at normal speaking levels with or without correction; the ability to make fine discriminations in sound. Work requires close visual and acuity and the ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus, i.e. shift gaze from viewing a computer monitor to forms/printed material that are closer to compare data at close vision. Must be able to be active for extended periods of time without experiencing undue fatigue. Must be able to work schedules assigned with the understanding that changes may be instituted according to the needs of the hospital for off days, shifts or weekends. Mental Demands: Must demonstrate keen mental faculties/assessment and decision making abilities. Must demonstrate superior communication/speaking/enunciation skills to receive and give information in person and by telephone. Must demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills. Must possess emotional stability conducive to dealing with high stress levels. Must demonstrate ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task in complex situations is required. Must have the ability to maintain collaborative and respectable working relationships throughout SRHS and other organizations. Special Demands: Must possess superior customer service skills and professional etiquette. Must possess proficient knowledge and ability to use a computer (must be keyboard proficient) and other office technology (i.e., telephone, fax, etc.), MS Outlook and Word. Must be able to demonstrate appropriate clinical judgment and apply appropriate professional skills to a patient population of all ages. Must possess the ability to work independently with little supervision and seek guidance as need to clarify assignments or request for more information. Must possess basic business skills, an understanding of general financial operations and major AR goals in the healthcare environment. Job requires traveling throughout the SRHS service area - with the employee providing his/her own transportation. Job requires out of state travel for education purposes.
