Absences must be authorized by the incumbent's supervisor in accordance with school system procedures.Performance FunctionsFrequencyESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Other Professional Duties May Be Assigned) Performs various repairs, maintenance and modifications to school buses 65% Examines vehicles and assesses the nature and extent of damage or malfunction 10% Plans work and repairs procedures 10% Prepares paperwork for all repairs 5%SECONDARY FUNCTIONS (Other Professional Duties May Be Assigned) Transfers buses as needed 5% Maintains work area 5%Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesMay require:Knowledge of basic motor vehicle and school bus operation; local and state traffic ordinances; school bus safety policies and procedures; local and state roads and highways sufficient to locate specific locations and addresses; vehicle maintenance requirements, records and procedures; use of air and hand tools; construction materials used in the manufacture of school buses; and principles of electricity as it relates to vehicle diagnostics Skill in effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication; safe operations of motor vehicles; communicating school bus safety policies and procedures to passengers/students; courteous and tactful treatment of passengers/students; operating electronic communication devices; welding; auto painting; mechanical repair Ability to operate a variety of motor vehicles including school buses; identify the need for, perform or have performed routine vehicle maintenance procedures; keep accurate vehicle records; work frequently in a seated position; maintain a high degree of attention to traffic and road conditions; lift heavy objects; and perform manual labor.Education and/or ExperienceHigh school diploma or GED equivalent required; associate's degree from an accredited automotive technical school preferred.Minimum of three (3) years experience in auto repair required.Certificates, Licenses, PermitsValid commercial drivers license (CDL) required.Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification in school bus maintenance preferred.Performance FactorsVery Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces.Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
