Executive Liaison Officer - Center for Climate Systems Research

Overview This position is based with the Center for Climate Systems Research (CCSR), a unit of the Earth Institute (EI). The AIMES project (Analysis, Integration and Modeling of the Earth System) facilitates multi-disciplinary and multi-national activities to address integrative questions that cannot be addressed by individual scientists or institutes. AIMES builds scientific capacity across the community by providing endorsement and guidance to research activities, initiating new activities (e.g., integrating observations and measurements with models, model or data comparisons); organizing scientific workshops; producing synthesis/assessment reports; publishing a newsletter; curating a website; and interacting with partner projects and programs. Current focal areas include developing biogeochemistry and Earth system models, global climate and land model benchmarking, understanding human-environment interactions from deep-time perspectives, and supporting a Young Scholar’s Network that encourages interaction among the natural and social sciences as well as the humanities. Reporting to the Director of CCSR and the Director of GISS, the AIMES Executive Liaison Officer will serve as a liaison between the scientific community and the AIMES project to provide administrative support and help facilitate coordination of initiatives across the scientific community. The Executive Liaison will work with the international AIMES Scientific Steering Committee (SSC) to determine priorities and will work with the SSC and other members of the international community to facilitate execution. The officer will initiate and track new AIMES activities; organize and support workshops; report on activities and progress; interact with funding agencies to provide accountability; organize, facilitate and document progress and plans for the annual SSC meeting; and support recruitment of authors, edit articles for the newsletter, and update and maintain the website. Responsibilities Serve as a liaison between the scientific community and the AIMES project to provide administrative support and help facilitate coordination of initiatives across the scientific community. Qualifications Masters level education in Climate or Earth System Science or related field with at least 7 years of experience working in or supporting research environments, and experience leading or managing projects. Interest in supporting multi-national research activities. Highly self-motivated and organized; acute attention to detail. Outstanding written, verbal, and interpersonal skills with a multi-national community. Willingness and ability to travel internationally approximately 3–6 times per year. PhD in Climate Science, Earth Systems Science or related field strongly preferred; knowledge of web page design/editing and ability to coordinate research or synthesis products across multiple research groups is desirable.
