About the Role
The Company is seeking a General Counsel and Deputy Commissioner to join its Division of Occupational Licensure. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and managing the agency's legal, enforcement, and regulatory functions, as well as serving as the Chief Legal and Strategic Advisor to the Commissioner and Senior Management. This role involves direct supervision of legal staff, establishing agency-wide legal and operational priorities, and ensuring the agency's compliance with all legal obligations. The General Counsel will also be involved in formulating and implementing legal, enforcement, regulatory, and operational policies that support the agency's mission and strategic priorities. Applicants must be a lawyer licensed in Massachusetts with a deep understanding of MA administrative law, consumer protection laws, and a working knowledge of the legislative process. The role requires excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interact effectively with a wide range of stakeholders. A minimum of 7 years of legal experience, with at least 3 years in a managerial capacity, is required. The ideal candidate will have experience in public sector legal work, familiarity with state administrative procedures, and a background in construction and trade law. The position demands a strategic thinker with the ability to anticipate and address legal, regulatory, and policy issues, and to represent the agency in significant legal and policy matters.
