Computed Tomography Technologist

Position Summary: Produces computerized tomographic scanner radiographs of specific areas consistent with established policies and procedures at a technical level typically requiring general supervision.


Job Specific Duties and Responsibilities

1. Obtains patient history, explains standard procedures, and addresses patient concerns to foster a sense of comfort and confidence to patients and ensure the needs of individual patients are met.

1. Operates and maintains all assigned imaging department equipment including but not limited to tomography scanner equipment.
2. In addition to conducting scans, prepares patients for these diagnostic procedures by explaining the process and positioning patients to correctly capture the images requested by a physician.
3. Properly identifies, prepares and/or administers medications that are within the technologist's scope of practice as prescribed by a licensed independent practitioner.
4. Completes quality assurance processes and practices radiation safety in order to reduce exposure to patients, staff and self.
5. Maintains all required documentation, logs, charts, forms and records in paper and electronic formats.
6. Maintains an adequate supply of all consumables to perform quality testing.
7. Performs all routine daily, weekly, monthly, and periodic maintenance and function checks following established protocol for all imaging equipment.
8. May assist other areas of radiology as assigned.
9. Performs other related duties as required and directed.

Qualifications:

Required:

• High school diploma or GED
• Certified as CT Technologist
• If not CT Certified, cross training from another ARRT modality to become CT Certified within twelve (12) months.
• Graduation from an AMA-approved school of radiology technology
• Certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT).
• Current BLS certification

Preferred:

• Associate degree in radiology

__ Sedentary Work: Lifting 10 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying such

articles as dockets, ledgers, and small tools. Although sedentary job is defined as one which

involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out

job duties. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and

other sedentary criteria are met.

__ Light Work: Lifting 20 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects

weighing up to 10 pounds. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible

amount, a job is in this category when it requires walking or standing to a significant

degree, or when it involves sitting most of the time with a degree of pushing and pulling

of arm and/or leg controls.

X__ Medium Work: Lifting 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of

objects weighing 25 pounds or more.

__ Heavy Work: Lifting 100 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of

objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

__ Very Heavy Work: Lifting objects in excess of 100 pounds with frequent lifting and/or

carrying of objects weighing 50 pounds or more.
