About the Role:

Expedia Group’s Tax & Compliance Technology team is looking for a Technical Operations Analyst II to support the technology and operational processes behind global tax and compliance capabilities. This is a hands-on individual contributor role focused on SQL, data analysis, technical troubleshooting, tax technology systems, and reporting . You’ll investigate issues, maintain tax content and configuration, support launches and testing, analyze operational data, and work cross-functionally to ensure tax technology remains accurate and reliable.

Key Responsibilities:

• Execute approved tax content and configuration updates, including rates, tax codes, geocodes, effective dates, and taxability settings.
• Investigate and resolve non-standard tax technology issues by analyzing data and system behavior.
• Apply documented solutions, validate outcomes, and escalate complex or unprecedented issues when needed.
• Support jurisdiction launches, monthly content and rate changes, tax-engine updates, and compliance activities.
• Perform preparation, testing, production validation, live-site checks, and maintain completion records.
• Monitor operational queues, reports, and dashboards to identify patterns, anomalies, recurring issues, and data-quality gaps.
• Recommend process improvements to reduce manual effort and repeat incidents.
• Partner with Tax, Product, Engineering, Legal, Finance, Market Management, Partner Support, and external technology providers.
• Maintain runbooks, knowledge articles, ticket histories, audit evidence, and process documentation.
• Contribute to automation and other improvements that increase operational efficiency and accuracy.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Science, Finance, Tax, Accounting, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
• 2+ years of relevant professional experience in technical operations, tax operations, compliance operations, data analysis, or a related field.
• Experience troubleshooting non-standard problems through data analysis, pattern identification, research, and validation.
• Working knowledge of SQL, spreadsheet analysis, and data cleaning .
• Ability to manage multiple time-sensitive tasks while following change controls and escalation procedures.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with indirect tax, tax content, jurisdictional rules, tax determination, tax engines, or compliance technology.
• Experience with Vertex, Avalara, Salesforce, Jira , or similar operational systems.
• Familiarity with configuration management, UAT, production validation, audit trails, incident/problem management, and operational readiness.
• Experience creating reports, dashboards, reconciliations, or trend analyses using SQL, Excel, Tableau, or similar tools.
• Experience with Tableau, Power BI, Looker, or Excel dashboards .
• Familiarity with automation or AI-driven tools and workflows.
