Welder

Job Description

Under supervision, will be required to perform welding repair and maintenance to stationary production related equipment, machinery and structures such as, conveyors, crushers, elevators, drives and screws at aggregate, ready-mix and asphalt plants. Tack welds or welds components and assemblies, using electric, gas, arc, or other welding equipment. Cuts work piece, using powered saws, hand shears, or chipping knife. Melts lead bar, wire or scrap to add lead to joint or to extrude melted scrap into reusable form. Installs or repairs equipment, such as, catwalks, ladders and other minor repair. Removes rough spots form work piece, using portable grinder, hand file or scraper. Heats, forms and dresses metal parts, using hand tools, torch or arc welding equipment. Ignites torch and adjusts valves, amperage, or voltage to obtain desired flame or arc. Welder is expected to weld, lay out, fit, position, secure parts and assemblies and fabricate metal components to assemble structural forms, such as machinery frames, walkways according to specifications, using straightedge, combination square, calipers, and ruler.

Responsibilities

• High School Diploma/GED or an equivalent combination of training and work experience.

• This is an entry level position which requires welding skills with entry level aggregate experience. High school or recreational welding experience is preferred.

• Must have knowledge to understand oral and written instructions of a technical nature relating to products and vehicles. Must have knowledge to operate welding equipment to join metal components together. Must have excellent driving skills and the ability to maintain satisfactory customer and public relations in performance of duties. Good mechanical skills are required, knowledge of raw materials, production process is preferred. Ability to read and interpret welding blueprints. Strong problem-solving skills. Physical ability to lift and move heavy objects. Possess good mechanical and welding skills.

• Travel to other facilities maybe required. Must be able to work required overtime and flexible work schedule. The employee is outdoors and exposed to varying and/or extreme weather conditions (i.e., heat, wet, cold, etc.) Physical ability to lift and move heavy objects. Ability to work overtime and extended hours including weekend depending on customer and company demands.
