Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 13-week night shift contract on a Med/Surg Telemetry unit specializing in ENT and Palliative care, with intermediate care background required.

Details

• Work setting is an acute care hospital unit (4N PCU/Med Surg) with 29 beds, designated as a Level 2 Trauma Center
• Patient population includes post-operative abdominal surgery, ENT surgery, complex wounds, and general medical cases
• Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4 on days and 1:6 on nights; nurse aides are available at 1:8 (days) and 1:14 (nights)
• Telemetry monitoring is supported by monitor techs who track rhythms and alert nursing staff — RNs are not required to read their own strips independently
• RNs are required to titrate drips including heparin, and occasionally insulin, diltiazem, amiodarone, and nitroglycerin
• Respiratory equipment on the unit includes CPAP, BiPAP, Vapotherm, and occasional tracheostomy management; no ventilators
• Charge nurses take a reduced patient assignment; travelers are not expected to serve in the charge role
• EMR system is Cerner, with a planned transition to Epic
• Night shift hours are 1900–0730 with 12-hour shifts; 36-hour work weeks may also be available
• Every other weekend (EOW) and every other holiday (EOH) rotation required
• No on-call or standby requirement
• Float rotation to other med/surg units may be required when the unit is overstaffed

Requirements

• Active WI RN license or valid Compact RN license (must be active by assignment start date)
• Current BLS certification (AHA); ACLS preferred
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• Intermediate care or PCU background required
• Proficiency with IVs, drains, ostomies, wound vacs, NG tubes, and Foley catheters required
• Experience with electronic health records required; Cerner experience beneficial
• 2 professional references required for consideration: 1 supervisor reference from within the last 12 months of relevant experience, and 1 peer or supervisor reference from within the last 3 years

Additional Information

• Orientation consists of 12 hours of computer training followed by 12 hours of unit shadowing
• Block scheduling is not guaranteed but is prioritized whenever possible, especially for night shifts
• Scrubs of any color are acceptable
• Candidates who have previously worked for this health system must have an end date at least 6 months prior to their application date, and hospital approval is required
• Candidates residing within 80 miles of the facility are considered local, which may affect the travel pay rate offered
