Building Mechanic

Glacier Bank Park is looking for a skilled Building Mechanic to maintain the operational readiness, appearance, cleanliness, and overall condition of our buildings and systems (with occasional support at sister properties).

This is a full-time, facilities lead role that reports to the Director of Facilities. The Building Mechanic performs routine inspections, maintenance, repairs, and facility improvements while teaching others and coordinating with specialized vendors to complete tasks and projects efficiently. Strong troubleshooting skills, attention to detail, and the ability to read blueprints, system manuals, and parts catalogs are essential.

Normal business hours are 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, but early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours may occasionally be required. During winter weather events, snow operations may begin as early as 5:30 AM.

The location of this position is at Glacier Bank Park, 25 McDermott Lane, Kalispell, Montana. Some travel to sister properties may be required.

Compensation: This is a full-time, hourly position with competitive pay. Benefits include health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, 401(k) with matching incentive, and paid time off (PTO).

Primary responsibilities for this role will include:

1. Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, repairs, and improvements on all building systems and interior finishes (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, lighting, refrigeration, kitchen equipment, flooring, drywall, laundry machines, hot/cold tubs, etc.).
2. Operate, monitor, and troubleshoot/diagnose plumbing, HVAC, electrical, lighting, mechanical, fire pump, and other building systems using schematics, electrical blueprints, and technical manuals; execute repairs promptly to minimize downtime.
3. Identify and promptly report leaks, temperature issues, safety concerns, appearance problems, and other operational issues; assist with corrective action.
4. Independently lead assigned projects from planning through completion.
5. Teach other personnel how to complete basic building maintenance tasks and repairs. Oversee their productivity and work quality.
6. Coordinate with contractors and vendors to obtain estimates, schedule services, coordinate access, supervise and track progress, and confirm work is complete when specialized work is required.
7. Perform pressure washing, general cleaning, patching and painting, installations, upgrades, and other building improvement projects.
8. Perform seasonal preparations, including opening and closing procedures, winterization, and weather-related operational readiness.
9. Safely operate, inspect, and maintain hand tools, power tools, ladders, lifts, and other maintenance equipment; report issues promptly.
10. Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment servicing.
11. Maintain clean, organized maintenance shops, storage areas, tools, equipment, parts, and supplies.
12. Follow all safety protocols, use required PPE, and keep a clean, safe work environment.
13. Assist with snow/ice removal (often starting at 5:30 AM), including operation of plows, push boxes, brine systems, and application of ice-control materials.
14. Support event preparation and tear-down including cleaning, special setups, and the handling of tables, chairs, barricades, signage, and equipment.
15. Assist with loading, unloading, moving, transporting, and storing equipment, furniture, supplies, and materials.
16. Perform other related duties as assigned to support the safety, appearance, functionality, and operations of Glacier Bank Park's buildings.

Qualifications:

• Previous experience in building or facility maintenance, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, mechanical, or a related field required.
• Working knowledge of plumbing, HVAC, electrical, drywall, carpentry, painting, and general building maintenance. Relevant trade certifications are preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, system manuals, and equipment documentation.
• Knowledge of applicable occupational hazards and safety standards, including OSHA, NFPA, EPA, and ASHRAE regulations and guidelines.
• Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
• Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work effectively with minimal supervision or as part of a team.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly discuss maintenance needs and issues.
• Basic administrative and computer skills, including ordering supplies, maintaining records and documentation, scheduling maintenance, and coordinating with others.
• Interest in sports and pride in maintaining high-quality facilities preferred.
• Physical strength and dexterity to lift, move, and handle equipment; ability to lift 50+ pounds, stand and walk for extended periods, navigate all areas of the facility, work in confined spaces, and work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
