Head DriverPay Range: $21.00 to $23.00 per hourThe Head Driver is responsible for supporting transportation operations at their assigned location by coordinating closely with Transportation Supervisors. This role plays a key part in ensuring efficient routing, truck and equipment management, driver training support, and oversight of cart and trailer loading practices. While not a supervisory position, the Head Driver serves as a liaison between management and the driver team—helping to communicate directives, relay updates, and ensure alignment with operational expectations while maintaining a high standard of safety and operational excellence. While this role does not include hiring, firing, or disciplinary authority, it requires strong peer leadership and communication skills to maintain smooth daily operations.Key ResponsibilitiesServe as the Transportation Supervisor's point of contact, observing operations closely and communicating all relevant information.Safely operate and oversee vehicles and equipment, ensuring strict adherence to all traffic rules and safety regulations.Model expected behaviors, applying sound judgment and maintaining a proactive approach to address team needs and operational demands.Communicate effectively and consistently with driver teams and supervisors to ensure clear understanding of expectations and updates.Develop driver teams through coaching and training, identifying and addressing specific training needs.Oversee and optimize driver routing, resolve route-related issues, and promote efficient trailer loading and unloading.Help coordinate daily transportation activities, including donor service, fleet maintenance, and support of retail store delivery needs.Conduct regular safety meetings and inspections to prioritize compliance with all safety guidelines.Complete pickup routes as needed, alongside other responsibilities to support team and operational goals.Maintain a clear understanding of company goals and mission, communicating these to team members as well as donors.Attend required training sessions and meetings to enhance skills and stay informed of organizational policies and updates.QualificationsExperience with systems overseeing routing, tracking, and the management of trailers and fleet maintenance, along with a fundamental knowledge of Microsoft Office is preferredValid driver's licenseClean driving record and ability to pass a motor vehicle records checkAbility to operate a box truck in a safe and efficient mannerKnowledge of traffic laws and regulations related to driving a large commercial vehicleAbility to work independently and follow a set scheduleAbility to maneuver the truck in tight spaces and operate the box truck used to pick up donationsFlexibility in schedule to accommodate changes in pickup routes or schedulesHigh school diploma or GED preferredPhysical RequirementsAbility to lift up to 70 pounds and carry it for short distancesPhysical stamina to stand, walk, climb, and bend for extended periods of timeAbility to operate heavy machinery, including box trucks and compactorsVisual acuity to read road signs, maps, and operating instructionsGood hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity for operating truck controls and handling bags and boxesStrong back and abdominal muscles to maintain proper posture while operating equipment and lifting heavy objectsAbility to work in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and snowGood hearing to detect warning signals and communicate effectively with coworkers and supervisorsMust be able to pass a pre-employment health screening and motor vehicles record checkWork EnvironmentAtmosphere: The work environment is dynamic and characterized by a consistently busy atmosphere.
