Job Details Medical Assistant – Certified (Cardiology) – Full Time, 2900 Lamb Cir, Christiansburg, VA. Shift: Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Employment Status: Variable / Flex Shift Day. Role Summary The Medical Assistant – Certified provides basic clinical care using technical skills for patients according to established standards and reports patient observations to licensed staff. This full‑time position is eligible for a sign‑on bonus when the successful candidate meets applicable guidelines. Responsibilities Collect patient assessment data (height, weight, vital signs, chief complaint, current medications, etc.) for assessment by licensed staff. Transport patients through the office, prepare patients for provider evaluation, obtain specimens, position for exams, list medications, and assist during exams and procedures. Maintain work area, exam, treatment, x‑ray rooms, and lab in a clean, safe manner; restock supplies and instruments; sterilize reusable equipment as needed. Document patient information in the medical record timely, including updated treatment procedures, medication refills, test results, patient concerns, in compliance with Carilion Clinic policies. Observe all safety precautions and standards. Assist with lab procedures: collect urine specimens, collect and prepare blood samples for reference lab, label all specimens with accurate patient ID as ordered by physician. Perform diagnostic tests (EKGs, audiograms, vision testing, spirometry) as appropriate for assessment by licensed staff. Assist with referral authorizations for specialists and pre‑authorization for testing and ancillary services as directed by licensed staff, provider, or mid‑level practitioner. Greet patients and assist with check‑in/check‑out procedures; update patient demographic information; answer phones; schedule appointments; relay messages. Utilize automated computer systems, including electronic medical records. May administer oral and parenteral medications. Qualifications Education: High School Diploma or GED. Experience: None. Licensure, certification, and/or registration: Medical Assistant Certification through a recognized national professional association (American Association of Medical Assistants, American Medical Technologists, National Association of Healthcare Professionals, American Registry of Medical Assistants, or National Healthcare Association) or provisional status with provisional passing score. Life Support: AHA BLS‑HCP required. Effective communication skills and problem‑solving. Effective computer skills required for automated computer systems, including electronic medical records.
