Job Overview

• Company: Kingsbury Companies, LLC
• Salary/Pay Rate: $80,000–$110,000 per year
• Location: Middlesex, VT (Onsite)
• Work Arrangement: This is an onsite position. Candidates must currently live within commuting distance of Middlesex, VT, or be willing to relocate.

The Opportunity

Kingsbury Companies is seeking an experienced Heavy Civil Estimator to develop accurate, competitive estimates and support complex construction projects from preconstruction through bid submission.

This role is ideal for an estimator who understands the fundamentals of construction estimating, can independently perform takeoffs and scope reviews, and is ready to contribute at a strong mid-level within an experienced estimating team.

While direct heavy civil, industrial, or water/wastewater experience is valuable, Kingsbury is also open to estimators from adjacent construction sectors who bring strong estimating fundamentals and the ability to interpret complex construction documents.

How You Will Make an Impact

• Analyze construction drawings, specifications, geotechnical reports, topographical surveys, and other project documentation to define accurate project scopes.
• Develop detailed quantity takeoffs and comprehensive project estimates.
• Perform scope reviews to identify labor, material, equipment, subcontractor, and project requirements.
• Develop labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor pricing for project bids.
• Build accurate cost models using construction estimating software.
• Evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes and identify gaps, exclusions, or discrepancies.
• Develop competitive bidding strategies while identifying project risks and appropriate contingencies.
• Support value engineering efforts during preconstruction and design-build phases.
• Conduct site visits as needed to evaluate existing conditions and incorporate field findings into estimates.
• Participate in bid reviews, post-bid meetings, and project discussions with internal leadership and clients.
• Collaborate with project management, field operations, vendors, and subcontractors throughout the estimating process.

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum of 5 years of construction estimating experience.
• Demonstrated experience performing quantity takeoffs and scope reviews.
• Strong ability to develop detailed construction estimates and project cost models.
• Ability to accurately interpret construction drawings, plans, specifications, and technical documentation.
• Proficiency with construction estimating software and related technology.
• Strong understanding of labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor pricing.
• Ability to evaluate subcontractor and vendor proposals and identify scope gaps or pricing concerns.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for working with vendors, subcontractors, project teams, clients, and leadership.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel to regional project sites as needed.
• Must currently live within commuting distance of Middlesex, VT, or be willing to relocate.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

• Experience estimating heavy civil, industrial, water/wastewater, earthwork, excavation, underground utility, infrastructure, dam, or renewable energy projects.
• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a closely related technical discipline.
• Experience with HeavyBid (HCSS), Construction Link, Bluebeam, Procore, or similar construction estimating platforms.
• CAD experience.
• Knowledge of heavy civil construction methods, process piping, site work, earthwork, and underground utilities.
• Prior experience spanning project engineering, field project management, or construction cost accounting.
• Working knowledge of construction law, contract terms, risk allocation, and strategic pricing models.
