Posting Summary - Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Staff Nurse for the department of Medicine at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. The Staff Nurse, in collaboration with physicians, nursing staff, and other members of the healthcare team, oversees, coordinates, and provides focused, episodic care to Rutgers Health patients. This care encompasses health promotion, health maintenance, or management of health-related problems that is delivered in face-to-face or telephone encounters. Additional responsibilities include delegation, direction, and supervision of the activities of Rutgers Health LPNs and non-nursing clinical staff to meet the needs of Rutgers Health patients.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

• Explains procedures and treatments to patient to gain cooperation, understanding and allay apprehension.
• Responsible for assisting with patients who are medically complex and/or have sensitive medical or social issues.
• Reviews plan of care, meds/tests with physicians as needed.
• Contacts pharmacy for prescription renewals for patients.
• Documents all patient correspondence and correspondence with other pertinent health care providers.
• Administers prescribed medications, teaches patients how to administer injectable medication.
• Assists with the treatment and examination of patients.

Minimum Salary - 37.230

Mid Range Salary - 46.540

Maximum Salary - 54.050

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience - Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with a license to practice in the State of New Jersey as a Registered Nurse (RN required).

Certifications/Licenses

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - The ability to function in a team environment is required. Basic word processing and computer skills are required.

Preferred Qualifications - Two (2) years of relevant experience, preferred.

Physical Demands and Work Environment - Physical Demands: Position requires standing to 2/3 of the time, walking to 2/3 of the time, requires sitting to 2/3 of the time, use of the hands to finger, handle or feel to 2/3 of the time, reach with hands and arms over 1/3 of the time, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl under 1/3 of the time, talk or hear over 2/3 of the time. Position requires lifting 1/3 of the time up to 10 pounds, and under 1/3 of the time up to 25 pounds. Work Environment: Moderate noise environment with some exposure (less than 1/3 of the time) to blood borne pathogens requiring the use of personal protective equipment; some potential exposure (less than 1/3 of the time) to hazardous waste.
