We are seeking a Product Manager to lead the enhancement of TEGNA's internal CMS/digital publishing platform and a native mobile collaboration application. In this role, you will partner with editorial leaders, newsroom teams, and engineering organizations to translate complex workflows into intuitive, high-impact solutions that help journalists and producers plan coverage, create stories, collaborate in real time, and publish content across multiple channels. This is a unique opportunity to own products that sit at the heart of how modern newsrooms operate—connecting storytellers, editors, photographers, producers, and leadership through integrated publishing and collaboration tools. You'll work at the intersection of product strategy, software development, and creative editorial workflows.

Responsibilities:

• Own end-to-end product discovery, definition, and lifecycle for the internal enterprise CMS and mobile collaboration platform.
• Gather requirements from newsrooms, business stakeholders, and technical teams; translate them into clear, testable epics, user stories, and acceptance criteria ready for development.
• Maintain a healthy, prioritized backlog across both products.
• Lead refinement sessions to ensure stories are well-defined, dependencies are identified, and technical constraints are understood before engineering begins.
• Build strong partnerships with Editorial leadership, business stakeholders, and newsroom teams to deeply understand current-state workflows, pain points, controls, and desired outcomes.
• Spend regular time observing how journalists, editors, photographers, and producers work to inform product decisions.
• Collaborate closely with Engineering teams throughout sprint cycles—from refinement through delivery.
• Develop a strong understanding of the software development process; communicate feature requirements clearly in developer-friendly language; and work pragmatically within technical constraints and dependencies.
• Lead agile planning, sprint execution, backlog refinement, and release planning using agile frameworks (Scrum, Kanban) to establish predictable delivery cadence.
• Focus on agile principles and workflow efficiency rather than rigid ceremony adherence.
• Manage scope, dependencies, and stakeholder expectations—balancing internal customer value with technical debt, platform constraints, and risk considerations.
• Establish traceability from customer requirements through delivery and release.
• Support UAT, demos, and acceptance sign-off to validate that shipped features meet intended outcomes.
• Monitor post-release feedback, adoption metrics, and operational KPIs. Drive continuous improvement cycles to reduce rework, improve user satisfaction, and enhance system performance.
• Lead stakeholder communications covering roadmap priorities, release plans, dependencies, tradeoffs, risks, and post-launch performance across editorial, engineering, and business teams.

Requirements:

• 4+ years of Product Management or Product Owner experience with demonstrated ownership of customer-facing products or internal platform systems.
• Familiarity with content management systems, digital publishing platforms, media asset management systems (MAM), or collaborative editing tools.
• Strong understanding of the software development process and lifecycle.
• Comfortable discussing technical constraints, dependencies, and design trade-offs with engineers.
• Ability to write clear, testable user stories and acceptance criteria that developers can act on.
• Experience working with Agile/Scrum delivery teams and managing backlogs in Jira, Azure DevOps, or similar tools.
• Familiarity with agile frameworks and workflow principles.
• Demonstrated success gathering requirements from diverse stakeholders, translating them into actionable product requirements, and validating solutions with customers.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical audiences—from engineers to editorial leadership.
• Strong analytical, prioritization, and decision-making skills.
• Comfortable making tradeoff decisions in ambiguous, cross-functional environments.
• Data-informed decision maker with experience defining, measuring, and improving product outcomes.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of newsroom operations, editorial workflows, journalism, or media technology.
• Experience with analytics platforms (e.g., Amplitude) to measure adoption, engagement, and feature success.
• Familiarity with enterprise integration concepts (APIs, data flows, identity/access management).
• Experience with governance, risk, and compliance requirements (audit readiness, data privacy).
• Proficiency with tools like Confluence, Figma, Visio/Lucid, and Microsoft Suite.

• Internal stakeholders report improved alignment, transparency, and predictability of delivery.
• Delivered features improve newsroom workflow efficiency and user satisfaction metrics.
• Engineering team reports clear requirements, fewer blocking dependencies, and efficient sprint execution.

Pay Range: $100,000 - $150,000 USD
