Cutting Manager

POSITION PURPOSE Responsible for providing leadership, guidance, direction and management for the Cutting Department during the various shift operations. Ensures production safety, quality and customer satisfaction goals are met. Initiates and supports all processes and ensures compliance with Six Sigma efforts. Minimal supervision required. JOB FUNCTIONS Managing the sheet fed line, rotary die cutting, and rotary die sharpening areas to ensure paperboard is sheeted, printed, and cut to specifications. Planning, directing, and managing operations to achieve operating goals and objectives consistent with plant and division objectives. Identifying cost reduction and continuous improvement opportunities in support of Six Sigma efforts. Identifying capital improvement projects for the department and providing project management support. Managing department efforts across shifts and with other departments and functions. Establishing department goals in the areas of safety, quality, productivity, and employee development. Ensuring production operations are conducted in a safe and clean working environment and comply with federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Identifying activities and opportunities that improve the manufacturing processes and control costs throughout the department. Directly involved in responsibilities/actions related to Prerequisite and Food Safety Programs. In the absence of Cutting Manager, transferring daily responsibilities to Operations Manager or a Supervisor. Completing additional duties as assigned. Reporting to authority any potentially unsafe conditions that may result in unsafe foods or noncompliance to SQF related procedures. Participating in SQF Root Cause and Corrective Actions (from customer complaints, SQF audits, validation, and verification activities). Reporting customer complaints to the GPI Customer Complaint system for root cause analysis and corrective action. Verifying SQF controls and meeting the standards of the SQF requirements. JOB SPECIFICATIONS Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline or related field with 5‑8 years’ experience in converting operations and working with dies, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to manage projects, resources, and people and set and meet target disciplines. Ability to develop improvements and achieve budget/cost constraints. Supervisory experience preferred. Proficient with Microsoft Office, Outlook, and internet. SAFE QUALITY FOOD RESPONSIBILITIES Follow all plant rules, processes, hygiene, and allergens procedures related to production of Safe Quality Foods. Report any potentially unsafe conditions or customer complaints to authority for record and corrective action. Participate in SQF Root Cause and Corrective Actions and verify SQF controls meet requirements.
