Non-perm Office Assistant 3- Health Services

The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the role of Non-perm Office Assistant 3 in health services for the Coyote Ridge Corrections Center (CRCC), located outside the Tri-Cities in Connell WA. Under the supervision of the Health Records Technician 2 (HRT2), and with the guidance of the Health Records Technician 1 (HRT1), this position helps to ensure patient health records are managed in a way that supports the Health Services mission of delivering high-quality, efficient, and effective healthcare services, and employee engagement to improve lives in a safe and secure environment during the patient's incarceration and after release, which increases the patient's chances of succeeding upon reentry, directly contributing to the Department's mission to improve public safety by positively changing lives. Coyote Ridge Corrections Center has a diverse population seeing different chronic diseases and taking care of those that need long term and palliative care.

Correctional Health is a rewarding career path at DOC, in which health care professionals treat a wide array of cases for patients residing in a state correctional facility. Health Services is responsible for basic primary care for incarcerated individuals. All disciplines within all of the 12 correctional facilities work closely together to reach a common goal, providing the best, most efficient, and cost-effective health care possible. Emphasis is placed on early identification of health concerns, care for acute and chronic health problems, and preventive care.

Duties may include:

  • Maintenance/Management of Patient Health Records
  • Transferring/Releasing/Incoming Health Records
  • Breakdown/Thinning of Health Records
  • Organizational Support and Other Departmental Requirements
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to type a minimum of 40 words per minute.
  • Intermediate word processing and spreadsheet skills.
  • Two (2) years clerical experience.
  • Handle stressful environments: Adapt to and positively handle the stress of a high-paced work environment.
  • Multi-Task: Ability to multi-task, prioritize and complete work assignments in a fast paced, detail-oriented environment. Share information appropriately: Maintain confidentiality of information learned through position that is protected by Department of Corrections policy, federal and/or State law. Keep supervisor informed of need-to-know items; share complete and accurate information.
  • Policies & procedures: Know, understand, and consistently demonstrate ability to follow all applicable agency policies, procedures, and guidelines related to custody and security. Stay current as policies and procedures change.
  • Team player: Demonstrate team approach to providing excellent-customer service. Communicate effectively both internally and externally. Promote inclusiveness.
  • Foster a positive attitude: Demonstrate openness toward the ever changing social and cultural makeup of the workplace. Work effectively with men and women of different perspectives, abilities, disabilities, races, religions, ages, lifestyle preferences and social, ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Respectfully acknowledge people's differences and recognize these differences as important and valuable. Be culturally sensitive and appropriate. Respect and value diverse backgrounds and traditions.

Preferred/Desired Qualifications:

  • Two years or more experience in Health Information Management and knowledge of medical terminology
  • Experience working in a correctional setting.
  • Willingness to work in an open cubicle environment at various onsite locations.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds
  • Ability to stand work on your feet for extended periods of time throughout the day.
  • Ability to bend, reach, and pull health records from shelves at various levels.
