Internship, Environmental, Health, Safety & Security (Fall 2026)

Program Overview This position is expected to start August 2026 and continue through the entire Fall term (i.e., through December) or into early Spring 2027, if available. We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full‑time, for most internships. International students applying through CPT must confirm they can work 40 hours per week. The role requires a 40‑hour work week for external applicants. About the Team EHS interns engage in a variety of activities across many disciplines. Under the mentorship of EHS specialists/managers, interns undertake projects directed at specific topics such as equipment safety, industrial hygiene, occupational ergonomics, environmental compliance, sustainability, and training & education. They also work closely with multiple teams ranging from production to engineering to provide EHS support to day‑to‑day operations, conduct safety walkthroughs and audits, deliver safety trainings to employees, participate in analyses of workplace incidents, and help drive corrective actions. Construction Safety : The Construction Safety Specialist collaborates with the EHS team and Tesla’s construction management personnel to ensure contractors follow the safety program and Tesla’s overall contractor safety program, managing safety and risk for several active and upcoming construction projects and ensuring compliance with all applicable safety regulations. Safety : Responsible for leading or participating on policy and procedure development teams of safety initiatives, pilots, and roll‑outs of new processes, including setting up and managing projects in person and/or virtually with tracking through JIRA, Confluence, and SharePoint. Environmental : Responsible for various aspects of environmental compliance such as ensuring conformity with federal, state, county and city regulations; identifying methods to manage hazardous waste and proper disposal of materials; and recognizing further improvements to manage stormwater and wastewater. Research and Development (R&D) : Provide day‑to‑day support to R&D sites across all Fremont, CA locations. Interns work on manufacturing locations where proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, video editing, online training systems, CAD, and chemical handling is crucial. Sustainability Operations : Responsible for gathering and analyzing data that can be used to set and achieve sustainability goals. Fire Management and Prevention : Maintains building fire protection systems, provides initial emergency response with internal and external agencies, and prepares employees to react appropriately to emergencies. Emergency Management : Responsible for improving Tesla’s overall resiliency before, during or after an emergency by engaging in emergency operations and planning, recovery and continuity planning, mitigation projects, training or exercising, and outreach. Also identifies potential threats or impacts, produces hazard analysis briefings, and supports travel security efforts. Industrial Hygiene Team : Provides technical and other resources to ensure workers perform tasks without endangering their health and well‑being, using state‑of‑the‑art industrial hygiene practices based on REACH, OSHA, ACGIH, the USEPA, and other bodies. Tasks include quantitative exposure assessment for noise and chemicals, using Tesla’s Health Risk Assessment procedure, preparing hazard communication materials, and working with multi‑disciplinary teams to develop and implement controls. What You'll Bring Currently pursuing a degree in Environmental Studies, Industrial Safety, Public Health, Safety, or a related field. Previous work experience or internships related to the area of expertise. Experience or knowledge of Tableau, Power BI, SQL, and Python. Ability to develop and maintain key project metrics and assure compliance with federal, state, local, and corporate policies. Self‑starter who is results‑oriented, resourceful, analytical, innovative, and intellectually curious. Strong ability to embrace and adapt to change in a fast‑paced environment.
