Job Description
Sue Sumrell is recruiting for a very exciting tax position in Portland! If you are excited about renewable energy, this is an amazing opportunity to combine corporate tax and renewable projects!
This position is hybrid, but candidates must live in the Portland metro area.
Position Summary
As the Senior Tax Associate of Renewable Energy & Credit Compliance, you will serve as the technical engine managing our extensive, multi-million-dollar portfolio of clean energy incentives. Driven by the growth of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), this role bridges corporate tax accounting, federal labor compliance, and strategic monetization. You will ensure our projects maximize federal tax credits.

•IRA Tax Compliance & Technical Modeling: Manage compliance workflows for Section 48/48E Investment Tax Credits (ITC) and Section 45/45Y Production Tax Credits (PTC) across renewable streams.
•Labor Threshold Auditing: Oversee and audit contractor documentation—including certified payroll records—to ensure projects strictly comply with Department of Labor (DOL) Prevailing Wage and Apprenticeship (PWA) rules to protect 30% base credit rates.
•Credit Monetization & Transferability: Support the execution of Section 6418 tax credit sales to third-party corporate buyers, managing IRS pre-filing registration portals and building exhaustive, audit-ready due diligence documentation packages.
•Bonus Credit Verification: Analyze supply chains and project geographies to document, validate, and defend domestic content and energy community bonus credit add-ons (unlocking 40%+ credit tiers).
•Regulatory Accounting & Normalization: Ensure precise tracking of tax credits, deferred tax assets (DTAs), and macro-level accounting under ASC 740, while adhering strictly to tax normalization rules.
•Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner directly with Engineering, Procurement, Project Finance, and Legal teams to capture contemporaneous operational data throughout the lifecycle of major capital deployments.
This is an exciting opportunity with amazing benefits, stability and challenge. Please contact Sue Sumrell and email your resume directly to View email address on ziprecruiter.com
Qualifications & Experience
•Experience: 3 to 5 years of dedicated tax experience within public accounting (Big 4 or regional mid-tier) or a corporate tax department. Direct experience with renewable energy incentives, environmental attributes, or specialized cost-segregation is highly preferred.
•Strong understanding of federal tax credit compliance. Highly value understanding of Sections 45, 48 and 6418.
•Education & Credentials: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required. Master of Science in Taxation (MST) or an active CPA license (or clear path to completion) is highly preferred.
•Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and corporate tax software. Experience navigating IRS electronic portals and reviewing complex external contractor data.
•Attributes: Exceptional project management skills with the ability to translate complex Internal Revenue Code (IRC) provisions into practical compliance workflows for non-tax colleagues
