General Description:
The Cardiac Vascular Sonographer I performs specialized echo and/or vascular ultrasound testing on OU Health patients to aid Providers in the diagnosis, care, treatment and surveillance of simple to complex conditions, defects and/or diseases. This position is intended for those who are gaining experience as a Cardiac Vascular Sonographer or experienced imaging professionals who wish to begin a career in Cardiac Vascular Sonography. Work may be performed in an outpatient or inpatient environment across OU Health locations.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Under general supervision, performs diagnostic imaging on patients as ordered by a care provider.
- Ensures testing is performed safely and with the highest quality standards, maintaining a consistent focus on patient?centric care.
- Prepares patients for procedures and reviews clinical history to align with provider-ordered tests.
- Responds to inquiries from patients and family members, provides clear information regarding diagnostic testing and expected result timelines.
- Collaborates with team members across OU Health including Providers to provide exceptional patient care.
- Utilizes a variety of highly specialized imaging and ultrasound equipment and techniques to perform diagnostic procedures in accordance with established scope of practice guidelines.
- Conducts post-testing quality reviews to confirm that all required elements are completed, documented and align with departmental and accreditation standards.
- Transfers images and data to the appropriate electronic health system, enters technical data/findings and prepares study for reporting by physician.
- Performs quality control checks, cleaning, disinfecting and other equipment maintenance tasks per manufacturer instructions for use and other regulatory guidelines.
- Ensures that technical quality of testing meets established protocols and applicable accreditation standards.
- May administer contrast per protocol.
- May provide on-call clinical coverage outside regularly scheduled duty hours on weekdays, weekends and holidays as assigned.
- May support OU Health's academic partnerships by actively engaging in teaching of students in the radiologic program.
- May serve as a departmental preceptor to provide instruction and mentorship to new or less experienced team members. Assists with onboarding of new team members.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Graduate of an accredited ultrasound program with an emphasis in echo and/or vascular as defined by ARDMS, ARRT and/or CCI.
Completion of JRCERT accredited Military Educational Program will be accepted in lieu if program meets certification requirements to obtain ARMDS or ARRT certification.
Experience: No prior experience required.
License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required: BLS issued by the American Heart Association required. One of the following certifications issued by ARDMS, ARRT or CCI is required within 1 year of hire: Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS); Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS); Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS); Advanced Cardiac Sonographer (ACS); Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT); Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS); Registered Technologist Vascular Sonography [RT(VS)]; Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer in Abdomen [RDMS (AB)] (visceral vascular testing only); Neurovascular Specialist (NVS) (extracranial and intracranial testing only); Registered Phlebology Sonographer (RPhS) (peripheral venous testing only)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrates knowledge and skill in applying principles of radiologic technology, medical imaging, positioning of patients and medical ethics.
- Applies core knowledge and understanding of anatomy and physiology related to sonography and radiologic technologies associated with imaging specialty credentialed to perform.
- Demonstrates ability and skill to apply theory, practices and techniques to perform, post-process, analyze and annotate study data or procedure documentation.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age and patient populations served
- Demonstrates knowledge of and ability to apply HIPAA guidelines and standards.
- Ability to prioritize and complete clinical or non-clinical work assignments
- Ability to multi-task and remain calm in stressful situations
