Job Description

This role involves laying out, fitting, and preparing process piping systems for welding by interpreting ISOs and blueprints, cutting and assembling pipe, and ensuring all components are ready for welders in an industrial setting.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret ISOs and blueprints to determine pipe layout, routing, and function within process piping systems.
• Cut pipe to the correct length using saws and other hand tools according to specifications.
• Lay out piping on racks or pipe stands with the correct fittings so that welders can focus solely on welding.
• Assemble and fit butt weld joints and socket weld joints in preparation for welding.
• Grind piping to prepare joints and surfaces for high-quality welds.
• Use tape measures, levels, two hole pins, and saws accurately to ensure proper alignment and fit-up.
• Verify dimensions and alignment of pipe runs to meet project requirements and industry standards.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area, including racks, pipe stands, and tools.
• Collaborate closely with welders and other crew members to keep projects on schedule.
• Assist in other work areas as needed when pipefitting tasks are limited, supporting overall project completion.
• Travel to various job sites in the greater Memphis area, including locations in North Mississippi and Arkansas, and report directly to the project site each day.
• Follow all site safety rules, including use of required personal protective equipment, and adhere to company and client safety procedures.

Essential Skills

• At least 5 years of experience working as a pipefitter.
• Industrial experience with process piping systems.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and ISOs accurately.
• Proficiency in pipe installation, pipe layout, and process piping fitting.
• Hands-on experience with butt weld joints and socket weld joints.
• Ability to cut pipe using saws and other hand tools to precise measurements.
• Strong skills using tape measures, levels, two hole pins, and saws.
• Capability to grind piping to prepare joints and surfaces for welding.
• Experience working from and with detailed piping layouts and drawings.
• Comfort working in team-based environments on industrial project sites.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in chemical industry process piping is beneficial.
• Experience in food and beverage process piping is beneficial.
• Ability to adapt to varying project durations, from single-day assignments to multi-week projects.
• Willingness to assist in other trades or tasks on site when pipefitting work is limited.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality fit-up for welders.
• Reliable transportation to travel to job sites across the greater Memphis region.

Work Environment

The work takes place on industrial project sites focused on process piping for the chemical and food and beverage industries. You will work as part of a team at each project site, typically staying on the same project for a couple of weeks, with occasional shorter, single-day assignments. Standard hours are 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, with overtime as needed to complete jobs. You will drive directly to the job site each day and may occasionally work at out-of-town locations that require overnight stays. For travel over 60 miles from the main office area, you receive travel expense support, including mileage-based compensation, hotel accommodations, and a daily expense allowance. The role requires long sleeves and appropriate personal protective equipment, including your own hood and steel-toe footwear. Company shirts are provided after a few weeks, and you may bring your own tools and gloves. The environment is hands-on, safety-focused, and involves working with tape measures, levels, two hole pins, saws, grinding tools, and other hand tools commonly used in process piping and pipefitting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of West Memphis, AR.

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
