Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Pediatric ICU (PICU) position in Rapid City, SD, requiring at least 1.5 years of PICU experience and proficiency with Epic in a combined Gen Peds and PICU setting.

Details

• Works across both a 15-bed General Pediatrics unit and a 5-bed PICU
• General Pediatrics patients range from 0–18 years of age, including adult overflow (stable medical cases such as post-appendectomy, cellulitis, etc.), with diagnoses spanning respiratory illness, diabetes, septicemia, hyperbilirubinemia, mental health, trauma, neurology, and general surgeries (ENT, GI, urological, orthopedic, neurosurgery)
• PICU patients are 0–18 years of age requiring critical or intensive care for conditions including acute/chronic respiratory insufficiency, circulatory failure, infectious disease, endocrine and metabolic disorders, neurologic disease, toxic ingestions, trauma, and hematologic/oncologic disease
• Patient ratios: 1:5 in General Pediatrics; 1:1–2 in PICU
• Charting system: Epic (experience required); Omnicell medication dispensing
• 12-hour variable shifts, 48 hours per week
• Every other weekend rotation required
• All holiday coverage required
• Floating may include the NICU (feeder/growers, 1:3 ratio) and General Pediatrics (up to 1:5 ratio)
• May be placed on low census/on-call

Requirements

• Active RN license — South Dakota license or Compact RN license required
• Current certifications: BLS, PALS, and NIHSS
• Minimum 1.5 years of PICU RN experience required
• Proficiency with Epic EMR required
• Ability to titrate drips and provide care for mechanically ventilated patients
• Physical assessment skills across the lifespan (ages 0–adult)
• Two professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
• DOB and SSN required for consideration
• Must reside more than 100 miles from the facility to qualify for this position

Additional Information

• Orientation includes 1 day of facility orientation (online and in-person) followed by 2 days of unit orientation with a preceptor
• Unit support includes CNAs (1:5 ratio), a free-floating charge nurse covering both units, Respiratory Therapy, Hospitalist with Pediatric APP support, Pediatric Pharmacy, Phlebotomy (RNs and Nurse Aides draw their own labs), IV/VAT support (RNs start their own IVs with ultrasound available for difficult access), and Case Management and Social Work
• Scrub color: Navy
