CLASSIFICATION SUMMARY:
The Intervention Specialist provides clinical mental health support to youth within Hamilton County schools. Key responsibilities include facilitating small groups for at-risk students and offering individual and family counseling as needed. The specialist will also manage data collection, develop psychoeducational curricula, and gain hands-on experience in community outreach. Close collaboration with school administrators, counselors, teachers, and community leaders—along with a strong working knowledge of local resources—is central to the position. SERIES LEVEL: The Intervention Specialist is a stand-alone position. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.) Intervene and collaborate with the school system to ensure youth remain in school. Assess and identify students' unique needs and behavioral records. Help students with social or behavioral difficulties by creating intervention programming. Provide case management that includes student follow-up and advocacy. Conduct needs assessments with school-assigned at-risk students. Provide access to mental health support for at-risk youth. Conduct needs assessments and provide immediate support. Provide students with immediate support and conduct needs assessments. Create intervention programs. Implement intervention plans and track student progress. Connect with probation/parole and juvenile court as needed. Build trust relationships with parents, teachers, and others to create and implement intervention plans. Monitor student achievement data. Facilitate and recruit volunteers to assist with mentoring youth intervention strategies. Train and support school volunteers to facilitate small group sessions. Mentor youth on a one-on-one basis as well as provide family counseling and support. Recruit partners who support, identify, and assess the needs of students. Connect with or refer youth to appropriate agencies or organizations, which may include City of Chattanooga onsite or offsite partners. Provide research-based methods and strategies for assisting and supporting at-risk youths. Create behavioral programs (such as grief support groups) with curriculum. Collaborate with community resources for youth awareness. Support educational and supportive initiatives for at-risk kids in schools or their communities. Assist in outreach programs that engage school break youth programming by providing counseling and/or referrals. Promote community outreach programs that assist with essentials, such as clothing, food, and funds that support students and families. Attend youth and school events, as needed. Support all divisions of OCH staff with initiatives, programs, and/or activities on an as-needed or requested basis. Must meet regular attendance requirements. Must be able to maintain good interpersonal relationships with staff, co-workers, managers, and citizens. High school diploma or GED with five (5) years of any combination of relevant education, training, or experience; or any combination of equivalent experience and education. Must be able to travel throughout the City of Chattanooga and Hamilton County, Tennessee as needed.LICENSING AND CERTIFICATIONS:
Valid Driver’s License Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Knowledge or experience with juvenile, parole/probation court; knowledge of community resources and agencies that provide support to youth; of the school system and related resources; of evidence-based methods and best practices that are specific to client’s needs; of trauma-informed assessment, intervention and case management strategies preferred; and experience working with at-risk youth or juvenile court. Skill in working independently or in a team environment; organizing, planning and prioritizing work; strong problem solving; excellent written and verbal communication; using a computer and related software applications; building relationships; facilitating meetings; exercising good judgment and effective decision making; delegating and managing a team of volunteers; sensitivity to changing situations; planning, developing, supervising, and managing program and/or events; preparing and maintaining policies and procedures; communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, and the general public, sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
