General Cardiologist Physician

Overview

General Cardiologist at Methodist LeBonheur Healthcare will provide comprehensive medical services, ensuring safety and quality of clinical care in the physician practice and hospitals, working collaboratively with nursing staff and other healthcare providers.

Responsibilities

• Provide and manage direct patient care, including physical examinations, evaluations, and assessments.
• Prescribe pharmaceuticals, medications, and treatment regimens.
• Refer patients to specialists and appropriate care components.
• Evaluate patient need for prescription medicines and consider alternative techniques.
• Manage daily operations of the medical program, patient care unit, or research function.
• Direct and coordinate patient care activities of nursing and support staff as required.
• Follow established departmental policies, procedures, safety and infection control standards.
• Participate in specified health promotion, education, and prevention programs.
• Explain procedures and discuss test results or treatments with patients and families.
• Order, perform, and interpret tests, and analyze records, reports, and examination information to diagnose patients’ condition.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation within 3 days of visit or discharge.
• Coordinate work with nurses, social workers, rehabilitation therapists, pharmacists, psychologists, and other health care providers.
• Support call coverage for the practice and hospitals.
• Maintain acceptable productivity levels.
• Focus on high patient and family satisfaction and retention.
• Develop strong partnership with fellow physicians and support staff.

Education and Formal Training Requirements

• MD or DO in Medicine.

Licenses and Certifications

• Medical Doctor – Tennessee (Tennessee State Board of Medical Examiners).
• American Osteopathic Association Board Certified Physician–Specialty (AOA) – required.
• Preferred: Medical Doctor – Mississippi, Arkansas; National Board Certified Physician; Board Certified Physician – American Board of Medical Specialties; Board Certified DO – National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of legal and ethical standards for the delivery of medical care.
• Knowledge of accreditation and certification requirements.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Knowledge of community medical diagnostic and patient care services.
• Ability to supervise, advise, and train clinical professionals and/or students.
• Knowledge of current principles, methods, and procedures for evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to maintain quality, safety, and infection control standards.
• Ability to observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress.
• Knowledge of relevant drugs and patient care aids and ability to prescribe dosages and instruct patients.

Physical Demands

• Must be physically and mentally able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to perform essential functions.
• May include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, repetitive motion.
• Medium work loading; exert up to 50 lbs occasionally and/or up to 25 lbs frequently.
• Require close visual acuity (color, depth perception, field of vision). Frequent invasive and non‑invasive patient contact and exposure to body fluids and hazardous materials.
• Ability to react quickly to emergency situations.

Other Requirements
