Job Summary

W e are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Chemist to support the development, optimization, and sustainment of drilling and completion fluid products. This role is responsible for conducting laboratory-scale testing, analyzing results, and developing innovative, cost-effective fluid formulations that support operational and business objectives. The ideal candidate is experienced in drilling and completion fluids, possesses strong analytical skills, and thrives in a collaborative laboratory environment.

 

Job Description

  • Manage individual technical projects with minimal supervision while meeting project objectives and deadlines.
  • Design, optimize, and prepare laboratory-scale drilling and completion fluid formulations.
  • Conduct laboratory testing of drilling and completion fluids, including testing under elevated temperature and pressure conditions.
  • Perform laboratory investigations to evaluate product performance, troubleshoot formulation issues, and support product development.
  • Interpret test data, perform statistical analysis when applicable, and develop meaningful conclusions and recommendations.
  • Prepare clear, accurate, and comprehensive technical reports documenting laboratory findings and project outcomes.
  • Apply industry standards and recommended testing practices for drilling and completion fluids.
  • Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment to ensure accurate and reliable test results.
  • Collaborate with engineering, technical services, regulatory, supply chain, manufacturing, and operations teams to develop reliable and cost-effective chemical solutions.
  • Communicate technical findings effectively with internal stakeholders and external suppliers.
  • Contribute to technical publications, presentations, reports, patents, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and identify opportunities to enhance laboratory processes and product performance.
  • Follow all quality, health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures while maintaining a safe laboratory environment.
  • Shift: Monday - Friday 8AM - 5PM 

 

Skills Required

  • 2–5 years of experience in drilling and completion fluids, including laboratory and/or field operations.
  • Experience formulating and evaluating drilling and completion fluids.
  • Knowledge of industry-recommended testing practices for drilling and completion fluids.
  • Experience conducting laboratory testing involving elevated temperature and pressure.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to analyze complex technical data and communicate findings effectively.
  • Experience preparing technical reports and documentation.
  • Familiarity with laboratory equipment maintenance and calibration.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five or more years of experience in drilling and completion fluids.
  • Hands-on experience with laboratory-scale drilling fluid testing is preferred over advanced academic qualifications.
  • Experience supporting drilling fluid operations is highly desirable.
  • Statistical data analysis and interpretation.
  • Technical writing for reports, presentations, publications, or patents.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with engineering, manufacturing, regulatory, supply chain, and operations teams.
  • Continuous improvement and product development experience.

 

Education

  • Requ ired: Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or a related scientific discipline.
  • Preferred: Master's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or a related field.

 

Additional requirements

  • Primarily laboratory and office environment.
  • Regular laboratory work involving chemical handling, laboratory-scale mixing, and product testing.
  • Testing may involve elevated temperature and pressure equipment.
  • Active work environment requiring standing, walking, lifting laboratory equipment, and performing hands-on testing for extended periods.

 

Pay rate

  • $37 - $40 per hour (Compensation is offered based on experience, skills, and market factors)
