Staff Engineer - Electrical Systems, EMI and Lightning
$149.5k - $200kGE Aerospace
Job Description Summary Activities contributing to the design and development of products, solutions, and systems, including technical improvement of existing products and components. The role impacts approaches, projects, and programs in the functional area or affected business organization and ways of working, and influences the quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of the team. It has a significant input into priorities, guided by professional practices and policies that are shaped by this role. The Electrical System Staff Engineer demonstrates leadership in the execution of business priorities, engaging globally and with industrial partners to develop advanced/emerging technologies and support significant upgrades of fielded product lines. The Engineer is responsible for leading the proposal, development, integration, validation, certification/qualification, electromagnetic compatibility, and lightning protection of turbofan and rotorcraft engines. As a Staff Engineer, you will develop electrical components/systems over the full product design cycle (concept to new product introduction) for turbofan, turbojet, turboshaft, and turboprop engine controls for customers such as Airbus, Boeing, Sikorsky, Bell, Leonardo, and U.S. Army, Navy, Airforce, and other foreign military customers. You will collaborate with cross‑functional teams to design, test, and validate solutions that meet stringent aerospace standards and regulatory requirements, and address critical field, manufacturing, and production issues related to engines’ electrical systems and components. Roles and Responsibilities Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product/program requirements; work includes electrical engineering with a focus on EMI (Electromagnetic Interface) and lightning. Develop specialized knowledge in their discipline, serve as a best‑practice/quality resource, and maintain awareness of latest technical developments in the area. Contribute to strategy and policy development and ensure delivery within the area of responsibility. Use judgment to make decisions or solve moderately complex tasks or problems in areas of operational/product management, manufacturing, technology or engineering; provide new perspectives on existing solutions. Apply technical experience and expertise for data analysis to support recommendations, drawing on multiple internal and limited external sources. Act as a resource for colleagues with less experience and may lead small projects with moderate risks and resource requirements; explain difficult or sensitive information and build consensus. Conduct EMI/EMC analysis and testing to ensure compliance with aerospace standards (e.g., DO‑160, MIL‑STD‑461). Develop and implement lightning protection strategies for aircraft systems and components. Collaborate with design teams to integrate EMI and lightning mitigation techniques into product designs. Perform root‑cause analysis and corrective actions for EMI/EMC and lightning‑related issues. Support certification efforts by preparing technical documentation and reports. Stay updated on industry trends, standards, and emerging technologies related to EMI and lightning protection. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited university or college. Minimum of 5 years of experience in design engineering. Aerospace will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening. Desired Characteristics Master’s degree in engineering from an accredited university or college. Proven experience in EMI/EMC testing, analysis, and mitigation techniques in the aerospace industry. Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to work in a collaborative team environment. Experience with simulation tools such as CST Studio, ANSYS HFSS, or similar. Knowledge of aircraft systems and avionics. Certification in EMI/EMC or lightning protection. Strong oral and written communication skills, interpersonal and leadership skills, demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems, lead programs/projects, document, plan, market, and execute programs, and established project‑management skills. Base pay range for this position is $149,500.00 – $200,000.00. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus based on a percentage of your base salary/commission based on the plan. This posting is expected to close on July 15th, 2026.
