We currently have an exciting opportunity in our Inside Machine Shop. This position specifically is located in Norfolk, Virginia. We are looking for (two) 2 Inside Machinist J1-J4. Work Schedule 0600-1445, some weekends. Shift: ALL Security Clearance: No Clearance

Guidelines for Inside Machinist Journeyperson 4:

• Sets up and operates conventional and special-purpose machines to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts, and fits and assembles machined parts into complete units.
• Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines, such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders and shapers.
• Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors, such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut.
• Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
• Verifies conformance or finished work piece to specifications using precision measuring instruments.
• Set up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings.
• Fits and assemble parts into complete assembly, using jigs, fixtures, surface plate, surface table, hand tools and power tools.
• Verifies dimensions and alignment of assembly using measuring instruments, such as micrometers, height gauges, and gauge blocks.
• May install machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines and equipment and test operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance.

Knowledge of machine shop theory and procedures, shop mathematics, machinability of materials and layout techniques. Blueprint reading, sketches, drawing, manuals, specifications or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerance of finished work piece, sequence of operations and setup requirements. Measures, marks, scribes dimensions and reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent machining.

Journeyperson 3 (Inside Machinist):

• Sets up and operates conventional and special-purpose machines to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts, and fits and assembles machined parts into complete units.

Journeyperson 2 (Inside Machinist): Set up and operates conventional and special purpose machine to fabricate and refurbish machine parts using basic machine shop equipment with working knowledge of machine shop theory and procedures, shop mathematics, layout techniques and blueprint reading with limited supervision. Experienced in proper operation of the following equipment: turret lathe, boring mill, engine lathe, milling machine, drill press, grinders and use of shop measuring tools. Should have inside machinist tools to include calipers, indicators, micrometers and cutting tools.

Journeyperson 1 (Inside Machinist): Set up and operates conventional and special purpose machine to fabricate and refurbish machine parts using basic machine shop equipment with working knowledge of machine shop theory and procedures, shop mathematics, layout techniques and blueprint reading with supervision. Experienced in proper operation of the following equipment: turret lathe, boring mill, engine lathe, milling machine, drill press, grinders and use of shop measuring tools. Should have basic hand tools associated with machinist trade.
