Registered Nurse - Centralized Staffing Office - Labor and Delivery - PRN

Location Main Hospital Bldg - 1st Flr Shift Night Shift Position 12hr PRN Position Primary Purpose Provides care to assigned patient population in accordance with established protocols and multidisciplinary plan of care utilizing independent, dependent, and interdependent interventions to restore stability, prevent complications, and achieve and maintain optimal patient responses for all patients through patient‑centered/patient‑valued care. Minimum Specifications Education: Must be a graduate from an accredited school of nursing. Prefer Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Experience Must have two years of Labor & Delivery experience; OR must have successfully completed Parkland’s Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse Residency Program or Parkland’s Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse Fellowship Program and have one year of Labor & Delivery experience. Must have current RN license or valid temporary permit with the Texas Board of Nursing; or, valid Compact RN license. Must have current healthcare provider BLS for Healthcare Providers certification from one of the following: American Heart Association, American Red Cross, Military Training Network. Must have current Advanced Life Support (ALS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification on hire or placement in role. Certification must be from one of the following: American Heart Association, American Red Cross, Military Training Network. Must have current NRP certification upon hire or placement in role. Current incumbents and those hired between March1st – March31st,2025, will have 90days from date of hire to attain the certification. Certification must be from one of the following: American Heart Association, American Red Cross, Military Training Network. Must have one of the following upon hire or transition into the role: AWHONN Intermediate Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certificate, AWHONN Advanced Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certificate, or National Corporation Certification (NCC) Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certification. Must retake every two years from completion date of previous certificate: AWHONN Intermediate Electronic Fetal Monitoring or AWHONN Advanced Electronic Fetal Monitoring. National Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certification must be renewed every three years. Skills Or Special Abilities Provides care for assigned patient population in accordance with the current State of Texas Nurse Practice Act, established protocols, interdisciplinary plan of care, and clinical area specific standards. Applicants must pass Medication Examination prior to hospital orientation. Current Parkland employees requesting reassignment to role must have current Medication Examination on file. Provides continuous assessment, consults with other team members as required and provides nursing care which demonstrates patient‑centered/patient‑valued care. Exercises independent judgment in providing nursing care. Must be able to demonstrate effective interpersonal skills and possess good oral and written communication skills. Must be able to communicate effectively with patients, families, and hospital staff in accordance with established policies and procedures. May be required to communicate effectively via the overhead paging system. Must be able to demonstrate the ability to provide direction to non‑nursing staff and serve as a preceptor. Must be able to demonstrate patient‑centered/patient‑valued behaviors. As applicable, will be required to demonstrate acceptable knowledge of nursing standards of care for specialty care area. Responsibilities Serves as a patient advocate, focusing on patient needs, rights, confidentiality, and cultural preferences. Maintains positive relationships with internal and external customers and serves as resource for patients and healthcare team members. Maintains and implements knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws and guidelines that impact or govern nursing practice, ensuring compliance. Develops internal controls that promote adherence to state/federal laws and accreditation requirements. Maintains and updates knowledge of sanitation, infection control, safety and appropriate use of supplies and equipment. Maintains current knowledge of procedures and practice for induction of pregnancy. Performs patient assessments and continuous surveillance, recognizing changes and providing appropriate interventions. Consults with team members, notifies providers, and implements orders timely. Performs duties during labor, vaginal delivery, cesarean delivery, and immediate postpartum period. Supports breastfeeding, provides newborn education, administers medication safely, maintains IV access, performs point‑of‑care monitoring, and demonstrates safe infection control practices. Completes documentation accurately and timely in patient care records and hospital documents, meeting standards and objectives. Works with staff to provide direction to non‑nursing personnel. Participates in information exchanges. Provides hand‑off when care is relinquished. Seeks guidance from experienced staff. Serves as a preceptor or trainer to newer nursing staff, as needed. Identifies ways to improve work processes and patient/customer satisfaction. Makes recommendations to supervisors and monitors results. Remains up‑to‑date on latest nursing practice developments by attending seminars, reading journals, and participating in professional organizations. Maintains State of Texas RN licensure and any additional required certifications. Complies with staffing expectations: works a minimum of two shifts per pay period when the hospital requires, which may include weekends and major/minor holidays. Floats to areas within skillset as needed. Employees participating in the RN PRN program are classified in regular relief status with no benefit eligibility. They accept on‑call assignments and float to qualified clinical departments. No guarantee of work or minimum hours. Eligibility: two years of prior work experience in the specialty area and two years total nursing experience. Employees who do not meet scheduling requirements will be performance‑managed.
