Job Overview Under direct supervision, performs work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to support cardiac diagnostic, interventional, and electrophysiology procedures. Provides technical support in diagnosis and treatment of heart and vascular disease and models behavior exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision, and Values. Responsibilities Assist physician/surgeon during cardiovascular diagnostic, cardiac interventional, or electrophysiology procedures. Perform roles of scrub, monitor, or circulate during surgical procedures. Be available for on‑call duties and respond promptly to emergency procedures. Educate patients and families regarding procedures before, during, and after the event. Provide post‑procedure instructions and monitor patient condition, reporting changes to RN or physician. Initiate emergency procedures and protocols as needed. Administer contrast media and medications within scope and policy. Perform diagnostic testing: 12‑lead EKGs, identify cardiac rhythms and lethal arrhythmias. Collect, label, process, store, and transport specimens per established procedures. Document care delivered in the patient’s medical record. Monitor compliance with regulatory requirements, quality standards, and policies. Support preparation, maintenance, and availability of cath lab or electrophysiology lab supplies and equipment. Perform additional job functions as assigned. Education & Formal Training Required: Technical Degree or Diploma in Cardiovascular Technology. Preferred: Associates Degree in Nursing, High School Diploma or Equivalent in General Studies, Technical Degree or Diploma in Emergency Medical Tech (EMT), Paramedic, Respiratory Therapy, Surgical Technology, Ultrasound. Work Experience Required: No prior work experience. Preferred: 7–9 years in Cath Lab, 1–3 years in Respiratory Care. Licenses & Certifications Required: BASIC LIFE SUPPORT (American Heart Association); Emergency Medical Personnel Tennessee – Tennessee Emergency Medical Services Division. Preferred: Certified Surgical Technologist – National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting; EMT‑Basic Mississippi; Registered Nurse (Mississippi, Tennessee); Registered Respiratory Therapist (Mississippi, Tennessee); Advanced Emergency Medical Personnel – Tennessee Emergency Medical Services Division; Certified Respiratory Care Therapist – Tennessee Board of Respiratory Care; Tech in Surgery TS‑C – National Center for Competency Testing; Pediatric Advanced Life Support – American Heart Association; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support – American Heart Association; Paramedic (Mississippi); Licensed Practical Nurse (Mississippi, Tennessee); Certified Respiratory Therapist‑Mississippi; Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist – Cardiovascular Credentialing International; Certified Surgical First Assistant – National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting; Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist – Cardiovascular Credentialing International. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Proficient and certified in Basic and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS); certification to be obtained within 6 months of hire. Demonstrate ability to learn and practice clinical competencies of the Invasive Cardio Tech. Effective communication and customer relationship skills. Ability to organize multiple tasks and projects, maintaining workflow control. Physical Demands Climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping; repetitive motion. Exert force up to 100 lbs. occasionally and up to 50 lbs. frequently. Carries lead apron for extended periods. Requires close visual acuity with color, depth perception, and field of vision. Frequent invasive and non‑invasive patient contact. Exposure to patient body fluids and hazardous materials. Ability to react quickly to emergency situations.
