Job Title Driver OTR Location USA - VIRTUAL - US South Carolina Division Road Transport US Summary The Over‑the‑Road (OTR) Driver is responsible for the safe, timely, and professional transportation of freight between company facilities, customer locations, and designated destinations throughout the United States. This position operates commercial motor vehicles in compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR), and company policies while providing exceptional customer service. Benefits Drivers start at $0.65–$0.68 CPM based on experience. Average 3,500 to 4,000 miles per week. Duties and Responsibilities Operate a semi‑tractor/trailer in interstate and intrastate commerce up to 11 hours following required off‑duty periods, with trips ranging from several days to one week or more, while maintaining compliance with DOT Hours of Service regulations. Safely transport freight between company facilities, customer locations, and designated destinations. Back trailers into customer docks and facilities for loading and unloading. Perform required pre‑trip, en route, and post‑trip inspections of equipment. Maintain compliance with all DOT regulations, FMCSA requirements, and company safety policies. Maintain accurate electronic logs and required shipping documentation. Hook and unhook trailers and secure loads as required. Crank landing gear and swing and secure trailer doors. Apply tire chains during inclement weather when required. Fuel equipment and perform basic preventative maintenance inspections. Communicate professionally and effectively with dispatch, customers, and operations personnel. Participate in DOT‑required drug and alcohol testing programs, including random and reasonable suspicion testing. Promptly report equipment issues, accidents, incidents, and delays. Maintain a clean, safe, and professional work environment and appearance. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications and Experience Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL). Meet all DOT qualification requirements under FMCSR Part 391, including maintaining a current DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate. Minimum of two (2) years of verified commercial driving experience within the past four (4) years; three (3) or more years of over‑the‑road driving experience preferred. Experience operating multiple trailer configurations and servicing ports or intermodal facilities preferred. Basic computer and electronic logging device (ELD) proficiency. Strong English language skills, including reading, writing, and verbal communication. Satisfactory motor vehicle record and employment history. No positive drug or alcohol test within the past five (5) years. No DUI, DWI, reckless driving conviction, or speeding violation of 12 MPH or more over the posted speed limit within the past five (5) years. No preventable accident involving bodily injury within the past three (3) years. Hazmat Endorsement Required. Skills and Competencies Strong commitment to safety and regulatory compliance. Sound judgment and problem‑solving abilities. Adaptability to changing schedules, weather conditions, and customer needs. Attention to detail and documentation accuracy. Basic computer and mobile technology proficiency. Physical Demands While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit for extended periods while operating a commercial vehicle and use hands and fingers to operate vehicle controls and electronic equipment. The position also requires climbing, balancing, bending, twisting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, and walking. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to safely operate commercial motor vehicles and perform required inspections. Lift up to 50 pounds. Frequently push, pull, or maneuver freight and equipment weighing up to 125 pounds. Climb in and out of tractors and trailers multiple times daily. Couple and uncouple trailers and operate fifth‑wheel release mechanisms. Raise and lower landing gear. Conduct vehicle inspections. Operate vehicle controls safely and efficiently. Reach above shoulder level, at waist level, and below waist level while securing freight and operating equipment. Stand and walk on a variety of surfaces, including concrete, asphalt, gravel, wood, and metal, which may occasionally be wet or slippery. Meet all DOT physical qualification requirements. Work Environment While performing the duties of this position, the employee works both inside the cab of a commercial vehicle and outdoors at customer locations, terminals, and loading facilities. The employee may be exposed to diesel fumes, airborne particles, varying weather conditions, moderate to loud noise levels, vehicle vibration, uneven or slippery walking surfaces, loading docks, warehouses, terminals, and public roadways. The physical demands and work environment characteristics described above are representative of those encountered while performing the essential functions of the position.
