Senior Accountant
Sacramento, CA (Hybrid)

You are an experienced Senior Accountant to support the organization's financial operations through accurate financial reporting, month-end close, grant accounting, compliance, and financial analysis. Reporting to the Finance Director, this role ensures the integrity of financial data, strengthens internal controls, and supports continuous improvement of accounting processes in a collaborative, mission-driven environment.

This position pays : $38.00 to $40.00 per hour

What you will be doing

• Prepare and post journal entries in accordance with GAAP.
• Perform month-end and year-end close activities, including account reconciliations.
• Maintain the general ledger and ensure accurate classification of financial transactions.
• Reconcile bank accounts, prepaid expenses, investments, fixed assets, accruals, and other balance sheet accounts.
• Oversee Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable processes, ensuring timely, accurate processing and documentation.
• Manage grant billings and support compliance with grant and contract requirements.
• Prepare financial reports for funders, regulatory agencies, audits, and tax filings.
• Support the annual external audit by preparing schedules and required documentation.
• Perform financial analysis and assist with budgeting, reporting, and special projects.
• Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures.

What you bring

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a senior accounting role.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Experience with accounting software, including QuickBooks Online.
• Experience with grant accounting, financial reporting, and audit support.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Commitment to maintaining confidentiality, integrity, and strong internal controls.
• Ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment and collaborate across teams.
