Tax Controversy Associate Attorney
Locations: Chicago, IL | New York, NY | Washington, DC

Direct Counsel is seeking a junior to mid-level Tax Controversy Associate Attorney with 1–4 years of experience to join the Tax practice of a leading global law firm. This role offers the opportunity to work on sophisticated tax disputes at both the administrative and litigation stages.

Responsibilities

• Represent clients in IRS audits, administrative appeals, and Mutual Agreement Procedures (MAPs) .

• Handle tax controversy matters before the U.S. Tax Court and federal refund forums .

• Conduct legal research and draft memoranda, briefs, and other advocacy materials.

• Advise clients on strategy and risk assessment in connection with federal tax disputes.

• Collaborate with partners and colleagues on complex domestic and cross-border tax matters.

Qualifications

• 1–4 years of experience in tax controversy, tax litigation, or relevant government tax roles.

• Strong academic credentials.

• LL.M. in Taxation preferred .

• Excellent analytical, research, and writing skills.

• Ability to manage multiple matters in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

• Active bar admission in the jurisdiction of the office location.

Compensation
