Director of Payroll

We are looking for an experienced Director of Payroll to lead payroll operations for a complex, multi-state workforce in Seguin, Texas. This Contract position will oversee accurate and timely payroll delivery, strengthen compliance practices, and enhance reporting and process efficiency in a dynamic manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate brings strong leadership skills, deep knowledge of full-cycle payroll, and the ability to collaborate across HR, Finance, Accounting, and operations.Responsibilities:• Direct end-to-end payroll administration for employees across multiple sites and states, ensuring pay is processed accurately and on schedule.• Oversee payroll calculations for salaried and hourly staff, including overtime, shift premiums, variable compensation, incentive pay, and other earnings elements tied to manufacturing operations.• Monitor adherence to payroll tax rules, wage and hour requirements, garnishment orders, benefit withholdings, and statutory reporting obligations at the federal, state, and local levels.• Establish and maintain payroll controls, documentation, and governance practices that support audit readiness and compliance expectations within a public company environment.• Work closely with Finance and Accounting to support payroll reconciliations, ledger activity, accruals, month-end close tasks, and financial reporting accuracy.• Lead payroll system management efforts, including configuration improvements, integrations, upgrades, and automation initiatives that increase efficiency and reporting capability.• Coordinate internal and external payroll reviews, including tax examinations, compliance assessments, and audit-related requests.• Create, refine, and document payroll policies, workflows, and standard procedures to improve consistency and operational discipline.• Guide and develop the payroll team by setting clear expectations, coaching performance, and promoting a culture focused on accountability and continuous improvement.• Partner with HR and operational leaders on employee lifecycle changes, timekeeping, leave activity, organizational changes, and business events such as acquisitions, reorganizations, or site expansions that affect payroll processing.
