About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Surgical Specialty Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Days Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 1 year; Must have acute care surgical floor experience; Stepdown/PCU experience required; ENT and/or transplant experience preferred. License: Current RN License Certifications: Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association Must-Have: Good verbal and written communication skills; Able to organize, plan, coordinate and evaluate nursing services; Ability to maintain good working relationships with colleagues; Ability to respond effectively to cultural and language needs of patients and visitors. Description: Under general supervision, provides nursing care in a hospital to a variety of patients with health problems ranging from simple to complex. Assumes responsibility for an assigned group of patients. Documents patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments. Notes all changes in physician orders for assigned patients. Assists physician in the examination of patients and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatments. Obtains and monitors physiological data of patients, observes physiological manifestations, and intervenes when necessary. Administers medication as prescribed. Initiates, regulates, and monitors intravenous infusions and blood products. Delivers patient care competently. Interacts with family and patients in sharing care plans while in the hospital and at discharge. Informs patients and families of hospital procedures. Makes referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel. Delegates tasks to support staff. Performs other duties as assigned. This is a medical/surgical unit. Candidates will care for patients post-operatively and need experience taking care of patients with new drains, wounds, trachs, ostomies, NGT, or DHT. Some patients will require step-down care as well. Ratios are 5:1 for surgical patients and 3:1 for step-down area. Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures is required. Some computer skills are necessary.
