Head of Engineering

About the Role This is a founding leadership role at an early-stage neurotechnology company. You will drive the technical roadmap and scale the engineering team while working closely with company leadership on product direction and iteration. You'll own everything from infrastructure and reliability to engineering culture and hiring. This role requires someone deeply hands-on who can zoom out to set architecture and roadmap direction, and zoom in to ship code alongside the team. You should have lived through 0→1 product development and have strong instincts about when to build for scale versus moving fast and iterating later.

What You'll Do
- Set technical architecture and roadmap direction for the product
- Build and scale the engineering team while maintaining strong culture
- Work closely with founding team to drive product direction and iteration
- Drive engineering efforts in fast-paced, scrappy environments
- Own infrastructure, reliability, and technical decisions
- Participate in user research, data analysis, and experiment design
- Translate ambiguous product goals into clean technical decisions
- 2+ years building product at early-stage startups
- Track record of shipping products people genuinely love, from 0→1
- Experience driving engineering efforts in fast-paced environments with strong instincts about what matters at this stage
- Product engineer at heart: comfortable with ambiguity and able to engage in user research and data analysis
- Experience with cloud-based product architecture at scale
- High energy, low ego, deeply mission-driven
- Someone who pushes hard and brings out the best in people around them
- Equally comfortable in product strategy conversations and code reviews
- Native mobile development experience (iOS/Android) or experience managing teams who do
- Hands-on experience with RAG pipelines, agentic systems, or LLM-based products
- Background in consumer health or wellness technology
