Description: Denver Language School (DLS) is a public, tuition-free language immersion charter school located in East Denver. DLS provides an innovative academic program to reach the highest levels of student achievement through comprehensive language immersion education in Spanish and Mandarin Chinese. DLS offers traditional learning activities in the target language, making the language both the medium and the object of instruction. Overview of position: 

The K-4 Special Education Teacher serves a dual role supporting students with disabilities and providing targeted behavioral and social-emotional interventions for early elementary students. This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with all district and state special education requirements while delivering high-quality, individualized instruction aligned to student IEP goals.

This teacher will deliver IEP service minutes through both push-in and pull-out services, design individualized instructional plans, and implement targeted academic and behavioral interventions. A significant portion of the role includes supporting K-1 students in developing self-regulation, social-emotional skills, and school-readiness behaviors to ensure successful access to the general education classroom.

The successful candidate must be highly organized, knowledgeable in special education compliance, skilled in behavioral interventions, and able to collaborate effectively with families, teachers, and multidisciplinary teams.

This is a long-term temporary position that will be open from September 2026 - January 2026

The anticipated start date for this position is as soon as possible. 

The selected candidate will report to the Head of Special Education.

Pay and Benefits:

• Employees at DLS are compensated in accordance with other Denver-area charter schools. This position is paid at a rate of $60,444 - $69,144 (prorated to reflect a late start date). 
• Early student release each Friday to offer opportunities for professional development and collaboration.
• Discounted rates for after-school Fun Clubs of employees’ children.
• Individualized coaching and support, as well as school-funded professional development.
• Employees' children get priority in student enrollment, but there is no guarantee of enrollment due to seat availability.

Essential Functions and Objectives 

• Deliver IEP service minutes through push-in and pull-out services aligned with student goals and service plans.
• Design instructional plans and interventions to meet individual student academic and behavioral goals.
• Support implementation of accommodations and modifications within the general education classroom and coach teachers as needed.
• Develop and implement Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), including data collection and team collaboration.
• Collect and analyze data to monitor progress toward IEP goals and ensure compliance with reporting requirements.
• Coordinate with related service providers to ensure students receive appropriate supports aligned to their goals.
• Participate in IEP meetings and communicate clearly, respectfully, and solution-focused with families and staff.
• Provide direct support for K-1 students related to social-emotional development, self-regulation, and skills needed to safely access the general education classroom.
• Serve as a collaborative member of the Student Support Team.

Skills

• Strong knowledge of special education law, compliance, and documentation
• Ability to write and manage Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
• Experience implementing behavioral interventions and tiered supports
• Data collection and progress monitoring skills
• Strong organizational and time-management skills
• Ability to manage multiple competing priorities
• Positive collaboration and communication skills
• Background in RBT, BCBA, ABA behavioral specialist roles (ex: RBT, BCBA, ABA)
• Experience using Enrich or similar special education data systems
• Experience in early elementary (K-1) social-emotional and behavior support
• Experience partnering with immersion or general education teachers
• Ability to work across campuses if needed

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred)
• Valid Colorado Special Education teaching license
• 2–4 years of experience in special education (strong candidates with less experience may be considered if licensed)
• Demonstrated experience delivering IEP services and managing compliance timelines

Preferred Qualifications

• 4–6 years of experience in special education and/or behavior support
• Experience developing and implementing Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs)
• Experience supporting early elementary students with self-regulation and behavioral needs
• Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams
