Job Description GIS Specialist I – Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) – California Responsibilities Utilize ESRI ArcGIS Pro and ESRI Field Maps to complete map production, spatial analysis, and maintain complex geospatial databases. Edit and maintain large‑scale spatial datasets while ensuring high levels of topological consistency and attribute accuracy. Perform end‑to‑end data lifecycle, from initial field acquisition to office‑based QA/QC and final GIS integration. Utilize Trimble software solutions, including Trimble Access and Trimble TeraFlex, for streamlined mobile mapping and data collection. Configure hardware with Trimble Mobile Manager and post‑process data with Trimble Business Center (TBC) for verification. Conduct field data collection tasks and assist Senior Technicians in support of subsurface utility investigation activities. Set up and operate mapping and surveying equipment; inspect equipment and maintain project documentation. Employ advanced geophysical equipment (e.g., Ground Penetrating Radar) and observational skills to identify, designate, and locate all utilities within the scope in accordance with ASCE 38‑02 & 38‑22. Regularly communicate with field and office staff. Understand procedures and company policies to plan and accomplish basic goals. Adhere to AECOM strict standards for safety and quality. Minimum Requirements BS Degree and 0 years of related experience, or AS Degree and 2 years of related experience, or HS Diploma and 4 years of related experience. Experience with ESRI ArcGIS Pro, including map production and spatial analysis. Valid US Driver’s License; must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review. Frequent travel to field locations; may include occasional overnight travel. Frequent lifting of equipment up to 50 pounds unassisted. Frequent outdoor work in diverse seasonal weather conditions. Daily walking several miles on uneven terrains (mud, rock, grass, dirt, unpaved areas); ability to work in heat, cold, dust, and noise. Must pass all client‑required background checks. Preferred Qualifications Mobile mapping, surveying, or construction related experience. Experience with SUE and/or private locating. Understanding of SUE practices and procedures per ASCE 38‑02 & 38‑22. Detail‑oriented, professional, and positive attitude. Ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision. Troubleshooting skills and willingness to learn new procedures and technologies.
