Role

We are seeking a highly motivated entry-level Server Operator Contractor to support Credo's day-to-day HPC and server operations. This user-facing Tier I role will provide routine operational support and execute assigned activities in collaboration with the Credo IT team.

The Server Operator will support user access, VNC connectivity, mounted directories and file access, user onboarding and offboarding, planned maintenance, server deployment activities, escalated operational tickets, and infrastructure inventory management by following documented procedures provided by the Credo team.

This contractor position is intended for an individual with strong customer service, attention to detail, and the ability to complete assigned work accurately while escalating issues outside established procedures.

Key responsibilities

  • Providing Tier I HPC and server user support
  • Supporting account, VNC, mounted directory, and file access requests
  • Assisting with approved maintenance, onboarding, offboarding, and deployment activities
  • Executing documented operational tasks and escalating exceptions
  • Maintaining accurate server, storage, and infrastructure inventory records

We are looking for a dependable, organized, and service-oriented candidate who is eager to develop practical system administration experience while supporting reliable IT operations.

Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of computer systems, operating systems, and networking concepts
  • Strong customer service, communication, organization, and documentation skills
  • Ability to follow written procedures and complete assigned tasks accurately
  • Ability to manage routine support requests and escalating issues appropriately
  • Willingness to learn Credo systems, standards, and operational processes

Responsibilities

  • Provide Tier I support for HPC users and server operations, including account access, VNC connectivity, mounted directories, file access, and routine service requests
  • Support user onboarding and offboarding, including IPA account creation and deactivation, NFS home directory provisioning, and new-hire access workflows
  • Execute approved maintenance and change activities, including OpenSSH upgrades, IPMI firmware updates, operating system patching, and operating system upgrades
  • Assist with server deployment, including coordination with the colocation provider, base operating system installation, initial setup, and deployment validation; physical racking and cabling are performed by the colocation provider
  • Execute escalated operational tickets and assigned tasks using documented instructions provided by the Credo team, and elevate exceptions or unexpected results
  • Maintain accurate inventory records for servers, storage, and related infrastructure assets
  • Follow Credo procedures for ticket documentation, change management, security, access control, and operational handoff

Experience

  • Entry-level candidates with relevant technical coursework, training, certification, internship, help desk, or IT support exposure are encouraged to apply
  • Prior user-facing technical support or customer service experience is preferred
  • Exposure to Linux, server operations, or datacenter environments is a plus

Required Skills

Basic knowledge or developing experience in:

  • Windows or Linux operating systems
  • User accounts, file access, permissions, and remote connectivity
  • Basic IP address, DNS, and network connectivity concepts
  • Ticket documentation, customer support, and issue escalation
  • Following runbooks, checklists, and written work instructions
  • Microsoft Office or similar business productivity tools

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with Linux environments
  • Exposure to IPA, NFS, VNC, OpenSSH, IPMI, or HPC environments
  • Experience with ticketing or asset inventory systems
  • Familiarity with incident, request, and change management processes
