As a Full-Time Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapist (TF-CBT Therapist), you’ll provide specialized therapeutic care to foster children, foster families, and birth families connected to Monroe Harding’s programs. You’ll be the clinician in the room when a child finally feels safe enough to tell their story—and the steady presence who helps them build the resilience to write what comes next.

This isn’t a job where healing happens behind a closed door and nowhere else. You’ll deliver structured TF-CBT sessions, lead psychoeducational groups, respond in moments of crisis, and partner with the caregivers and case teams surrounding each child, so the progress made in session carries into everyday life.

Job Responsibilities

The Opportunity

This is a new role for our nonprofit. TF-CBT Therapists are central to the emotional healing and stabilization of youth impacted by trauma within Monroe Harding’s Mental Health program. You have an opportunity to build what this program from the first and put your imprint. If you have wanted to branch out and build a program using your best practices, this is your opportunity. In addition, you’ll carry a realist caseload of foster children and their families, delivering individual, conjoint, and family sessions while serving as a trauma-informed resource for the broader care team. Every session is different, but every session moves a child closer to hope.

What You’ll Do

• Deliver TF-CBT to foster children and their caregivers (foster and birth families), including individual, conjoint, and family sessions
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including progress notes, treatment plans, and discharge summaries.
• Conduct comprehensive trauma assessments, diagnostic intakes, and treatment planning.

• Facilitate trauma-informed psychoeducational groups and family support sessions.

• Collaborate with case managers, Monroe Harding and DCS staff, and external providers to ensure coordinated care.

• Provide crisis intervention and safety planning as needed.

• Offer consultation and training to staff on trauma-informed practices and TF-CBT principles.

• Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and case reviews.

Qualifications

What We’re Looking For

• Demonstrated commitment to trauma-informed care and family-centered practice

• Strong understanding of child development, attachment, and the impact of trauma

• Ability to engage diverse family systems with empathy and cultural humility

• Skilled in de-escalation, crisis response, and therapeutic rapport-building

• Effective communicator with strong documentation and organizational skills

• Flexible, collaborative, and resilient in high-pressure environments

• Certified or actively pursuing certification in TF-CBT

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field

• Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience, preferably with foster youth and families

• Licensed or license-eligible in Tennessee (LCSW, LPC-MHSP, LMFT)

• Experience with underserved populations and trauma-informed modalities required

• Familiarity with DBT, motivational interviewing, and family systems therapy is a plus

• Valid Tennessee Driver’s License
