High School Vocational Teacher - Design & Visual Communications

Vocational Technical Education Framework Strands Strand One: Safety and Health Knowledge Strand Two: Technical Standards Knowledge and Skills Strand Three: Embedded Academics Strand Four: Employability Strand Five: Management and Entrepreneurship Strand Six: Technology Responsibilities Meet and instruct assigned classes in the designated locations and times. Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students. Create a classroom environment conducive to learning appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students. Guide the learning process toward achievement of district curriculum goals, establishing and communicating clear objectives to students for all lessons, units, and projects. Prepare for classes assigned, providing written evidence of preparation upon request of the immediate supervisor as required by the teachers’ contract. Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the physical limitations of the location and the capabilities of the students or student groups. Strive by instruction and action to implement the district’s philosophy of education, instructional goals, objectives, and performance expectations. Assess student accomplishments regularly; provide progress reports as required and communicate with parents as deemed necessary. Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations. Diagnose learner challenges regularly, seeking assistance from district specialists as required. Take all necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Follow an established code of conduct for the classroom and develop rules of behavior enforced fairly and justly. Plan and supervise assignments for paraprofessionals, and provide written evaluations as required. Maintain a professional growth program that satisfies district requirements and personal expectations. Participate in the contractually approved teacher evaluation process, contributing to a mutual agreement on results. Attend building and district meetings to promote communication and mutual decision‑making during the extended day. Attend traditional school-sponsored activities (e.g., Back to School Night, Open House) as agreed with the building administrator and faculty pursuant to the teachers’ contract. Contribute to district and building decisions regarding budget, facilities, curriculum, and personal well‑being. Strive to maintain and improve professional competence. Qualifications Associate degree or higher related to subject matter and skills to be taught. Four years of recent (within the last seven years) full‑time employment experience directly related to design and visual communications. Passing score of at least 70% on written and performance tests required for licensure. Passing scores on the Vocational Technical Literacy (VTLST) and the Communication and Literacy Skills Test. Completion of Design and Visual Communications (9‑14) license requirements as soon as possible from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
